Eco-travel and anecdotes by one of the world's clumsiest girls. Follow my attempts to navigate the world in as sustainable a way as possible.
Rome’s top 2 attractions, the Vatican Museum and the Colosseum, are #37 and #39 on the list of most visited places in the world (both hosting 4 million tourists each year). The tours usually include the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. If you’re looking for a luxury stay in Rome, I recommend the Grand Hotel De La Minerve or the Hotel Raphaël. If you aren’t staying at either of these hotels, you will need a reservation for Hotel Raphaël’s rooftop, but can more easily stop in to the Minerva Roof Garden.
Nearby, visit the three city towers built in the Middle-Ages and get a magnificent view over the city from above. Carcassonne is a medieval fortified city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; without a doubt one of the most historical and beautiful places that you’ll visit on your France itinerary. Here you can stroll around the city paved streets and visit the castle from the 12th century, walk along the ramparts and shop for local crafts. The first written mentions of the city date back to the 12th century, first as only a castle, but the city is documented to have developed between the 13th and 15th centuries.
Packing for an Overland Trip Across the World in Just a Carry On If you haven’t heard, I’m going on an adventure. Packing for an overland trip with just a carry on I thought long and hard about which backpack to take on my overland trip, and finally settled for the Osprey Women’s Fairview 40 Travel Pack. Of course, as I’m travelling with just hand luggage and will be initially taking a plane before I begin my overland return journey, I won’t be taking any large liquid toiletries. I’m trying to whittle these down to as few as possible so they actually fit in my bag, and I’ve ended up with the following: Not owning/ packing many clothes is one of my best skills in life; it’s where I can really cut down, because honestly, I normally wear the same thing every single day.
And it’s not just that – meat based restaurants in Bristol (you know, the ones that have tip jars saying ‘every time you tip, a vegetarian cries’) aren’t doing so well. So, after my week in Bristol, I thought that there weren’t really many vegan restaurants in Bristol – just a lot of vegan options. After looking on HappyCow, I can see that there are 14 solely vegan restaurants in Bristol and 33 vegan or vegetarian restaurants in Bristol. I really think you’d be hard pushed to find something you couldn’t eat in a Bristol restaurant – and most of the time it would be something absolutely delicious.
