“Meet Sumedha aka thefashionmommy, a talented fashion designer at H&M, a Bangalorean by design but Delhi girl at heart, gifted decorator, moonlighting baker and mommy to two lil’ boys, Kabir and Ranbir. I’m highly inspired by Swedish interior design and my bi-annual work trips to Stockholm greatly influenced the design while setting up our home. Slowly over time we have built up the space and curated furniture from different online websites as well as some custom pieces. My personal takeaways from Sumedha’s home are the natural wood finishes, simple clean lines, earthy textures, Scandinavian-Industrial furniture pieces, little collectibles and her black/white art posters.
This time around, I added Brazil nuts to the recipe for selenium, flax seeds for omega 3 and hemp seeds for additional protein. I have sometimes added sunflower seeds and/or pumpkin seeds to this recipe in similar amounts. The cacao powder is great for lending a unified chocolaty flavor to these bites as so many ingredients can be slightly confusing to your palate. However, when you occasionally feel like indulging it would be better to eat these energy bites than any other traditional sweets made from ghee or refined sugar.
The house with its living/dining hall and 3 bedrooms had to accommodate not just our home, but also our architecture studio, a client meeting area, our entertainment area, a guest room, etc. So, we created spaces which are flexible in use, a 3 in 1 room that can be converted in to a meeting room or a guest room or a play area with foldable tables, collapsible bed and internal windows. Well there are lots of them, but a few prominent pieces are, a ‘Cycle sculpture’ made with parts that had come out of our Santro car and Enfield Thunderbird bike, a hand-painted storage cabinet portraying the computer game ‘Snood’ which I love to play, a light fixture made out of empty ‘Nescafe’ coffee jars and the favourite being the wall art named ‘KC Ville’ comprising of a lamppost, station clock, signposts and a feeding tray for our dog “Kalicharan aka KC”. Strategic location of foldable tables, collapsible bed and an “old-world” style window within the house gave us the flexibility to convert rooms to studio/meeting rooms and convert the kitchen to an open one with a breakfast counter.
My sister and I loved to add plants and colourful cushions and artwork to enhance the family living space or our bedroom. Some of the design process is intuitive, of course, and things start falling into place once you put the first piece of furniture or art or favourite piece in that space. The bench in the dining area is my favourite spot… a good place to keep an eye on my 13-year-old who enjoys cooking, or overseeing homework or reading. It’s very earthy, with terracotta tiles and funky posters.
