To wrap up Celiac Awareness Month, we are grateful to Pennsylvania @governorshapiro @joshshapiropa for his Proclamation to recognize May as Celiac Disease Awareness Month in Pennsylvania (for the 2nd year in a row). As Governor Shapiro proclaimed, "It is my honor to recognize May 2024 as Celiac Disease Awareness Celiac disease is a serious, genetic autoimmune disorder affecting more than 3 million Americans and is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people worldwide." We are also thankful to the Governor for his support of Jax's @fda Citizen Petition and calling on the FDA to require the labeling of Gluten as a Major Food Allergen in the US, just like Gluten must be declared on all food labels in 87 other countries! "By requiring food labeling of gluten, the FDA will ensure that individuals and caregivers are able to identify and avoid food that causes the damage and suffering associated with ingesting gluten." A few other highlights of NYC Eats: - 1st time eating at @donantonionewyork - we had been to their "sister" restaurant @kestepizza before and they have similar procedures - separate pizza oven, separate ingredients, etc. While this is a convenient midtown location, I will say Keste is larger, quieter and seemed less chaotic. But this pizza (made with GF flour with wheat starch by the way, so not good for those with a wheat allergy but safe for Celiacs) is still equally as delicious! - 1st time getting @ladureeus macarons - we stopped at a small stand in Hudson Yards (and later realized there is also a larger store with more flavors). They are pricey so only got a few - vanilla, chocolate and salted caramel. We also got 1 Eugenie cookie to try - it's a gluten free shortbread cookie covered in white chocolate that also comes in different flavors. - 2 dozen amazing bagels from @modernbreadandbagel from @dylandreyernbc when Jax appeared on @todayshow to talk about his FDA Citizen Petition to label gluten as a major food allergen. Had Dylan not gotten us the bagels, we definitely would have made a stop at Modern! Their gluten free bagels are amazing - the closest thing to regular bagels, and they do ship so check them out! And they freeze well. I am so excited that I finally got to visit the "new" location of @senzaglutenbyjemiko in Hell's Kitchen NYC. I say new in quotes because it has probably been open a year or more (the other location is downtown on Sullivan Street which is more of a bakery). Jon and Jax had gotten to go in August but I had not been. It's in a great location a few blocks from Times Square, and it has tons of indoor and outdoor seating. They serve a full brunch and dinner menu. We started with the bread basket - 3 types of warm, gluten free bread - Jax was in heaven! But let's talk about the menu! Pasta, lasagna, gnocchi, fish, chicken parm & more. Jax had gnocchi (as you'll see he likes to get his sauce on the side and just put a little on.) I got chicken parm which was huge with a side of penne. And then there are the desserts. We got an eclair to share and when I tell you it was the biggest eclair I ever saw! There is also red velvet cake, tiramisu, chocolate cake and more!
