Where to see the Sunrise on Skye

Dream away with this immersive travel story about experiencing a sunrise on Skye, one of Scotland’s most magical islands. This post has two parts: First, an immersive travel story that takes you into the moment of experiencing the sun rising above the Isle of Skye. Aware of the time, we find a good spot to witness the big moment and start setting up our shots. Tips for catching the sunrise at the Quiraing Aim to arrive at the Quiraing car park at least 30 minutes before sunrise to find a good spot to “watch the show”.

16 Brilliant Hikes & Walks in Glasgow

While it is easy to simply follow your nose through the park, there are three suggested routes available: the Highland Cattle Walk (1.9 miles, red markers), the Pond Walk (1.4 miles, blue markers) and the Burrell Walk (0.7 miles, yellow markers). There are multiple car parks to choose from: Brownside Farm car park, Gleniffer Braes car park, Braehead Road car park and Robertson car park (from east to west). Located just east of the Gleniffer Braes near the suburban town of Barrhead, they offer a physically challenging walk as well as beautiful views of Glasgow and the hills north of the city. For a linear walk with public transport access on both sides, begin your walk in the Gleniffer Braes in Paisley and walk over the hills of the Fereneze Braes to Barrhead.

Hikes near Glasgow: Fereneze Braes in Barrhead

Once you reach the top of the Fereneze Braes golf course, there are signposts for Paisley, Barrhead and Killoch Glen. The trail up into the Fereneze Braes starts on Graham Street near Barrhead railway station. The trail up the Fereneze Braes starts on the corner of Graham Street and Laurel Way in Barrhead. Turn left to return down to Hillside Road in Barrhead; turn right to get to the summit cairn and Killoch Glen.

Exploring Dams to Darnley Country Park in Glasgow

Stretching from the busy M77 motorway and the suburban town of Barrhead, Dams to Darnley offers a variety of landscapes and trails for a walk in Glasgow. Sometimes also called the “Barrhead Dams” (which are just one part of the park), the Dams to Darnley Country Park is a beautiful place for walking in Glasgow. Highlights on this route include the serene woodland at Darnley Mill, glimpses of the spectacular waterfall at Waulkmill Glen and a series of reservoirs, the “Barrhead Dams” which is the name many locals will use to refer to the entire area. I often start my walks at Dams to Darnley Country Park at the entrance on Corselet Road.
