Vegan Thai Desserts - Phuket Vegetarian Festival

Grilled palm leaves filled with a chewy sweet paste of palm sugar, coconut meat and sticky rice flour. A specialty in Phuket, these bouncy little alkaline cakes topped with grated coconut are made with palm sugar, rice flour, a touch of salt and pandan on occasion. Wrapped in banana leaves, a soft and creamy coconut milk and rice flour exterior encases a grated coconut and palm sugar filling. Clockwise from top: sticky rice with candied coconut, radish cake served with sugar, sticky rice with jackfruit, peanut and syrup filled sticky rice flour balls and palm sugar alkaline cakes with grated coconut.

Jalus Vegan Kitchen, Hanoi, Vietnam

Jalus Vegan Kitchen & Cafe is a curious little vegan restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam. And for this celebration Jalus Vegan Kitchen & Cafe had a special National Day Vietnamese menu featuring robustly flavorsome local dishes for an entire week. Bánh Chuối (banana, sweet potato, turmeric fritter) 30,000 Our favorite dish from this meal and a slightly unexpected one. 60,000 Better than the bánh xèo from Loving Hut in Hanoi, this thin rice flour, coconut milk and tumeric pancake had loads of flavor.

Vegan Khao Pad (Thai Fried Rice)

Our Vegan Khao Pad and Vegan Nam Pla Prik are really simple recipes inspired by our travels to Thailand and our passion for Thai cuisine. This straightforward vegan Thai fried rice (Vegan Khao Pad) can easily be adapted to suit your tastes and is ultimately a satisfying dish to prepare and eat. For the Vegan Nam Pla Prik; a spicy, sour, pungent, salty condiment that uses fish sauce in its non-vegan form, you could either use our brilliant vegan fish sauce or bottled vegetarian fish sauce as the base. We use Trader Joe’s High Protein Organic Super Firm Tofu, Wildwood High Protein/Super Firm Tofu or Soyganic Extra Firm Tofu for this dish.

Vegan Eats in Cape Town, South Africa 2017

We previously featured Vegan Eats in Cape Town, South Africa, and decided to offer up more from The Mother City with our Vegan Eats in Cape Town 2017. We returned to Lucille’s time and again during our stay in Cape Town for Bunny Chow and other Durban specialties like Puri Patha. We love traveling around the Western Cape and recommend visiting the winelands for at least a day trip if you’re in Cape Town. Addis in Cape isn’t the only option for excellent vegan Ethiopian food in Cape Town.
