While San Pedro now unfortunately lacks any kind of authentic appeal, good food and service are plentiful and it’s an extremely convenient starting point for an introduction to tours within the Atacama desert. So, I know that this post is titled “How to Tour San Pedro de Atacama in a Weekend,” but let me start by saying that one weekend is NOT enough time to spend in this region of Chile. In this post I will outline exactly how I fit 4 tours, that’s right 4, into only one weekend in the region of San Pedro. Many people had told us that Valle de La Luna ( Atacama’s “moon valley” )was an absolute must see in San Pedro and it’s pretty easy to see why!
The Real City Tour will give you an awesome first look and feel for downtown Medellín and the city’s Paisa culture. All of Real City’s guides are born and raised Medellín locals who are extremely passionate about their culture, their city and eager to share it with others. The cable cars were designed to connect the city’s less developed suburban slums, known in Colombia as “comunas” or “favelas,” with the newly rejuvenated city center. At Santo Domingo you can exit the station and follow the cable car line down to a “mirador” or lookout point with an awesome view of the city and the passing cable cars.

This little breakfast café is one of the only spots open at a decent morning hour and a great place to load up on a hearty meal before a day of exploring Valpo’s many hills. This little local cafe and ‘heladería’ (or ice creamery) is known for its variety of ice cream flavors, small bites (like sandwiches and pastries) and, my personal favorite, creamy hot chocolate with churros! This pastelería specializes in all things sugary and delicious, from homemade muffins and cookies to exquisite cake creations including Chilean classics like “Tres Leches” and “Milhojas.” And continuing with Valparaíso love of sweets More Hearty Meals- Lunch or Dinner in Valparaiso Weirdly enough, Café del Pintor isn’t really a café at all.
