Sea of yellow at care homes in heartfelt Covid tribute

ARTISTIC residents are turning their care home grounds into a sea of yellow in a show of love for the thousands of people in Wales who have died with Covid-19. Large bright yellow hearts are adorning the entrances to Pendine Park’s two sites in Wrexham to mark the first anniversary of Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing the United Kingdom would be entering lockdown. They will each act as a poignant reminder of the events of the past year and an expression of love to all affected by coronavirus, with Pendine Park having accepted an invitation to take part in the Light up Wales to Remember event on Tuesday (March 23). In a nod to the classic old song Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree, a colourful series of yellow ribbons will adorn the trees in Pendine Park’s grounds for the anniversary.

Historic village cricket club launches search for next generation of players

The club is launching its All-Stars and Dynamos age groups for five to 11-year-olds this summer thanks to £1,000 sponsorship from Swayne Johnson who have an office in the High Street and five more across North Wales. We have great facilities here at the club and we’re very grateful to Swayne Johnson for helping us to launch this exciting project to encourage youngsters to start playing. But Swayne Johnson’s commitment to the village extends further than that and as well as providing specialist legal services across a wide range of areas of law, we pride ourselves on being active and supportive within the community through sponsorships, donations, fundraising and attending local events which will certainly include cricket matches. All-Stars and Dynamos cricket is supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Tattenhall plan to launch the series of weekly sessions on May 17 after holding Taster events at their ground at The Flacca on Mondays, April 26 and May 10.

Mazda MX 30 launch report by Steve Rogers

You will spot a lot of cork lining the centre console and around the door handles, a nod to Mazda’s beginnings in 1920 as a cork manufacturer, while some of the door trim is made from the fibres of plastic bottles. is one of the cheaper electric cars starting at £25,545 after taking off the £3k government grant. The driver’s display is a mix of traditional and modern with three large dials, the central speedometer computer generated and calibrated to just 100mph (top speed is 87mph) with the speed limit clearly shown in red, and there’s a head up display option all helping to keep you on the right side of the law. There is a three model line up, well equipped from the starting SE-L Lux with the range topping Sport Tech (£29,845) fully loaded with Bose 12 speaker sound system, 360 degree camera view, heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats among the highlights.

Planned new powers to crack down on protests an “assault on human rights”, says police boss

A police boss has hit out at Government plans to introduce new powers to crack down on protests describing them as a “ full frontal assault on human rights”. North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones is against creating new powers to control the length of demonstrations, impose maximum noise levels and prosecute protestors for causing “serious annoyance”. The draft section on “public order” states that conditions can be imposed on demonstrations if the noise generated “may result in serious disruption to the activities of an organisation” or may “have a relevant impact on persons in the vicinity of the protest. The legislation creates a new public nuisance law that would make causing “serious annoyance or inconvenience” a crime punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
