Chateau hopping in the Dordogne has to be one of my favourite things to do in France. I love the architecture, the grounds and of course the blissfully cool interiors. Many of them are privately owned and homeowners will show you around for a small fee. Opening their home on certain days of the week. Of course there are plenty you can prebook online, taking an organised tour but my top tip is to drive around from town to town, pulling in when you see a sign. You’re bound to find a hidden gem! . Whenever the weather gets really hot we always hunt out water. Be that the sea, a pool, lake or river. The dordogne river is a great place for a cooling paddle and we found this lovely spot in the charming village of Lalinde. Empty beaches are my favourite kind of beaches. It helps when we can let the dog run free without the fear she’ll steal someone’s sandwiches and Piper can have plenty of space to play in the waves. I spend a crazy amount of time researching secret beaches and only visit the popular places out of season or just before sunset. Imagine having this view to enjoy your morning cup of coffee with (or nightly g and t 🍸 whichever works! 🤣 ) This is exactly want we got during our recent stay at @soarmillcovehotel on the south coast of Devon. It enjoys one of the best locations I’ve stayed at, just a ten minute walk down to a gorgeous cove, surrounded by fields filled with cows, deer and fabulous cliff walks. This hotel is super family friendly luxury with an indoor pool, massive family rooms and plenty of kid friendly food to keep the whole family happy.
