Sjaun and Anita came from London to celebrate their big day and they did it in style, with their closest friends and family, in a wedding that looks like it was as much fun as it was pretty. We both loved the garden hedge and, as we both have lived in the London for some time now, we wanted to bring a bit of England to Cape Town, so we decided to have a marquee reception. | Bride’s dress: Leanne Marshall NY* | Bride’s accessories: Swarovski (jewellery) + Jenny Packham (shoes) + Crystal Veils Co | Hair & makeup: Cecilia Fourie | Groom’s attire: Mrs Bow Tie (bowties) + SuitSupply (blazer) + Aldo (shoes) | Lighting: Down the Rabbit Hole | Hiring: My Pretty Vintage + Blooming Wonderful + Okasie + Makiti Hire | Marquee:
It’s important to hire a professional videographer for a job as important as documenting your wedding day, so the first question to ask is about your videographer’s background. A documentary style video has a chronological timeline and tends to have a more natural vibe, whereas cinematic film style does not stick to a chronological storyline and leans towards more planned studio/film-like shots. While it’s not absolutely necessary that they’ve worked together before, a prior relationship is helpful, or at least ask them to co-ordinate ahead of time how things will work on the day with both parties, so that you get the best photos and video possible. From your preparation – getting ready, spraying on your chosen perfume, special time with your bridesmaids and groomsmen; to your ceremony – where you see your precious groom’s face as you walk down the aisle and the part of the day where you pledge to each other unbreakable vows; all the way to your reception, where you toss your garter and bouquet and hear beautiful speeches and words from those that you love that might never be said again.
From see-through stationery to sheer dresses, I am loving every bit of this chic modern look, and today’s shoot is exactly why. As you know, I am kind of obsessed with tropical greenery, and I adore the way that palm leaves and ferns are paired here with soft yellow blooms – so eyecatching! And on top of all that, a spectacular ceremony area bringing the tropics to the city, with a stunning tropical arch framing that famous skyline, and plexiglass boxes filled with fauna. But while transparent normally makes me think of acrylic and glass, there’s a whole barely there trend going on in bridal too. Sheer and lace wedding dresses are where it’s at – a chic, sexy, super feminine way of expressing your fashionable self that I absolutely love. From the established illusion neckline and illusion back style, to nude lade gowns and sheer fabrics, to sheer panels showing off flashes of ‘skin’ (usually lining, in fact, which makes the look ironically and surprisingly quite modest), the whole thing is sheer perfection!
