A Love Letter to North Carolina

North Carolina has been on my mind a lot lately. When I came upon this love letter, penned by my friend Lara, I immediately tucked it away to share in the future

Thoughts on Hospitality: Hosting a Meal

One of the biggest things that stands out to me about our trip to Raleigh in November is the way I learned about hospitality, creating a home, and welcoming others from my friend Stephanie. We had been there for no more than five minutes and Stephanie had already offered us drinks, Rob had helped Dillon carry in our bags, and the kitchen smelled incredible from the meal they’d prepared for us. We continued to be completely blessed for our entire stay in so many ways, a handful of which I’m going to share with you for practicing hospitality when hosting loved ones in your own home, too! As we began to talk through the special dinner we’d booked at the Angus Barn (which is notorious for its chocolate chess pie), Stephanie excused herself from the table for a moment and came back with a warm, freshly-baked chocolate chess pie and whipped cream.

The Heart Behind My First Whole30

Today is Day 10 of my first Whole30. Simply put, Whole30 is an thirty-day reset for your body that focuses on eating wholesome foods, kicking cravings, increasing energy, health, and clarity, and breaking bad habits with food. I’m sharing this with you today because today is Day 10, which you can see here is quite possibly the hardest day yet. If this is Day 10, I’m so excited to see how I’m feeling by Day 30!

My Word for 2019

In the past, I’ve skipped the goal setting step of choosing a word for the year ahead because it felt trivial to me, like something that was cute to post on Instagram but lacked the heart and meaning to be carried past the newness of the year. In the week before Christmas, I was sitting in a hospital waiting room of all places, waiting to visit a dear loved one, and my word came clearly into my mind. They arrived yesterday, so my sweet early-January friends and family will be getting belated birthday wishes, but I’m so excited to love others well through this step this year. I’m looking forward to living out the word, ‘celebrate’, this year and for the way my life will be filled with more joy, love, and encouragement as a result!
