5 Ways Nonprofits Are Growing Change Muscle Today

The transition to virtual services during the pandemic created anxiety for many nonprofits, including Austin-based Broadcast Your Love (BYL). Prosci’s ADKAR Model helped address the barrier points BYL leaders and instructors faced as they looked at ways the organization could adjust to change. To survive, nonprofits like Dallas’ Heart House are shifting to online fundraisers to draw new audiences and funds. For nonprofits that want to build a change-agile culture, the Prosci Methodology and ADKAR Model offer an easy framework for enabling employees, volunteers and leaders to move through transitions and adopt change.

8 Alignment Hacks That Enhance Change Management Today

How do we match the right amount of effort to effect a response to a situation, the solution to the opportunity, or the problem to the solution? Too often we bring a simple solution to a problem that needed a complex solution, or we bring a complex solution to a problem that really only needed a simple solution. Lap 2 solutions helped us improve on what we put into place once conditions stabilized, and lap 3 solutions continue to help us reinvent ourselves But when you apply a structured process and set of tools to lead people through change, these alignment hacks can help you quickly adjust your approaches as needed.

Begin With the End in Mind

We apply change management because it has a distinct and pointed focus on benefit realization and achieving desired results and outcomes from change. The project team employed change management from the beginning of the project. Meanwhile, the project team and change management resources ensured that all key sponsors and managers were on board, engaged in creating Desire for and excitement around the change, and coached individual employees who needed more attention. By beginning with the end in mind, effective change management equips and enables the individuals affected by the change to embrace, adopt and use the required change, which leads to the desired organizational benefit.

A State Government's Rapid Pivot to More Successful Change

Last spring, a government organization contacted Prosci for help implementing a state-wide change management strategy as part of their COVID-19 response. Equipping and enabling 7,200 employees to work from home Rather than Prosci doing all the work for the client as consultants, we deployed our Advisory Services team to help the organization develop a plan and processes, put change management practitioners into must-win projects, and spool up their internal trainer capabilities. Prosci e-Learning also played a critical role as training pre-work, interventions to accelerate progress, and creating Awareness and Desire with front-line employees directly impacted by changes to their daily work. Many state and local governments have found opportunities to leverage the need for change management to their advantage, including several Prosci clients who now make change management an important aspect of the way they work.
