There are so many wonderful small businesses out there whether they are local and/or on Etsy. Since the pandemic, a number of people lost their jobs and either started their own business are relying on their business to make ends meet. I decided as a way to help get the word out about all the amazing businesses in New Jersey that I would put together a blog post and continue to edit it as more and more people share with me what they make or their services offered.
You are a sprinkle donut in a world of plain bagels. Let's start with babies 0-12 month. I've compiled a list of items that can be found on Amazon for easy shopping. Most of these items we have, if not the same, then slightly different (ie. sheep instead of dog from Cuddle and Kind).
In our case, our pandemic pod is a type of homeschool/private teacher situation. We have a small group of kids and a private teacher that plans curriculum and activities for our kids and works with them daily. That doesn't mean that our kids can't do anything like go places or play with friends outside the pod, but it does mean if they do see other friends, there are rules in place. If you don't have a group of friends to get started with on your search, I would recommend finding a local Facebook group for your township and posting there.
𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: Paint a Pumpkin Last weekend of Summer and we are over here decorating Pumpkins because it already feels like Fall. I’m not complaining, I love the Fall. We went apple picking yesterday and the girls had a blast. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬: Pumpkin (real or reusable) Washable Paint Paintbrushes Paint tray or ice cube tray Water cup 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: This activity is pretty self explanatory but if you want to make it more educational, use it to teach color mixing! I wish you could see the mess, but the joy in her face from the mess is worth the amount of time it’s going to take me to clean up the floor that is now covered in our Fall sensory bin. Are you a clean the playroom every night so that it is neat and tidy for the next day, or do you just leave it?
We’ve been busy doing a lot of updates on our backyard and I can’t wait to show you guys what we have planned as it comes together. When you are married to an engineer you get full hand drawn schematics of the plans 😂. It’s actually so cute and fun to watch Scott in his element like this. We found a swing set from a friend that needs some cleaning and a few repairs but as you can see, the girls already love it! Can’t wait to move it into our backyard after we put down the mulch. I did convince Scott that I did not want a coy pond. That was a no from me. It’s clothing week for B’s pod so we created a whole wardrobe on our driveway. Both girls were covered in chalk but they had a blast. I drew most of the outfits but B described what she wanted and did some tracing and coloring. I love how this activity can be built upon and extended. Our driveway is full of princess and ballerina dresses but we could’ve talked about the different seasons and outfits for when the weather changes. If we were outside and pretended that it started raining all of a sudden, we could quickly draw what we needed! I need all the outdoor ideas? ⬇️ I love being outside when the weather gets cooler.
The best work happens when you let your kids explore, play, and make a mess! My mom had the great idea to let the girls paint her outdoor planters. She covered the plants with trash bags and the girls used @crayola washable paint. To keep it from coming off when it rained and to add a finish that matched her house better, she diluted the paint that was used on her house and added a seal coat. Traveling with this little one just got so much easier with the @slumberpod . I took this photo last weekend when visiting my mom and when we came back this weekend I forgot it (even though it is compact for travel) and boy do I regret not having it! Getting G to take a nap yesterday, well...it didn’t happen. I gave up after 1.5 hours and bedtime last night was a struggle. This thing is a game changer for travel. At home my youngest is used to a dark sleeping environment and I love that the SlumberPod is made of breathable and light-blocking material that has passed safety tests and assessed for CO2 rebreathing. Full disclosure, I only use it at nap time and once asleep I open the front shade for more air flow. It does have 4 ventilation panels but my kids are always warm and it’s just a personal preference. Going to @Target is definitely different these days. I rarely (if ever) take the kids but today I needed to make a quick trip to get a few things while B was at school. G is not quite 2 yet so technically she doesn’t have to wear a mask but she likes to copy her mama so I let her if we are only going somewhere quickly. I was impressed that she actually kept it on and how well behaved she was sitting in the cart the whole time. She just pointed at things and talked. Mama grabbed a coffee as we were leaving and G got a water. Are your kids good about wearing a mask? Is the “quarantine 15” a thing? I feel like not going places is making me gain weight. I’ve been working out on the elliptical or taking the girls for walks outside but my weight won’t budge. If it does, it’s not in the right direction 😂 I’m hoping as the weather gets cooler we take longer walks outside. •Blog• Most schools start back up after Labor Day it they haven’t already. The majority of schools seem to be going remote and with a Masters in EdTech I find this fascinating. When the pandemic started and we were all quarantine B’s preschool went remote with a zoom class once a week. It was really sweet of the teachers but after the first week her attention span to sit in front of a computer was maybe 10 minutes. I recently reached out to some of the mom’s in the Facebook groups I am a member of and asked them about Virtual Preschool. I’m genuinely curious because our school district is offering remote learning preschool. We are already doing a “pandemic pod” so we aren’t doing it, but am interested if the kids are actually engaged at this age. ———————————————————— On another note, say hello to “Pinterest Preschool!” I decided with back to school, some of us need extra activities and crafts for our kids.
