Happy National Owl's Day, but what I should have said is Happy International Owl Awareness Day! There's not a lot of people out here celebrating but I get it: It's pouring. Otherwise I'm sure more folks would be out here 'owling it up with me! I just know it!! π¦π¦π¦π Anyhow, here's to a creature that symbolizes wisdom, intuition, spiritual awakening, mystery, and has the ability to turn their heads 270 degrees. That's so rad. Only humans who are possessed can turn their heads that far. π¦β€οΈπ¦ #internationalowlawarenessday #nationalowlday #owllove #owls #owlhat #itsraining #augustfourth
Mainstream society pressures us to be something weβre not, look a certain way we donβt, and have things we donβt have. So donβt forget to send mainstream society a 'Get Well Soon' card..., in your fun pants π and all!! ;) (PS: If you want me to sign your name or nickname to the card, lemme know below.) . . . #doyou #funpants #mainstream #tothineownselfbetrue #happylife #dogdays #healthandwellnesspodcast #healthylifestyle #uniqueyou #weirdos
Corn on the cob is a healthy summer treat (and certainly when in moderation and in all seasons when it's in season) and I am so grateful for it...but I'm not sure if it is entirely worthy of my mom's sacred corn on the cob family dinner tradition. ;) But I have to ask...do you eat corn on the cob with your meal or after your meal? I am still trying to understand where the "after dinner" ritual came from. lol Anyhow...do you have any quirky family dinner traditions that you still do? I'd love to hear them! ππ . . #familydinner #corn #cornonthecob #healthyliving #healthydinner #healthylifestyle #traditions
I had one 'birthday drink' in May, but before and since then, I have no desire to drink. I feel a lot better and healthier without alcohol in my life. It's strange because 'let's go for drinks' is such a common and expected social activity, but I never saw the fun in it or enjoyed it...though there's an immense pressure to partake.βοΈπ Does anyone else feel this way? . . . #alcoholfreelifestyle #alcoholfreelife #healthylifestyle #lifegoals #healthyandhappy #healthandwellnesspodcast #medicalpodcast #causesorcures #wellnessjourney
Me: "Maybe today is the day I see dolphins in the East River." East River: "Nope. But here's someone's shoe." Ah well. Dolphins or not, out here getting ready to go on a run and find myself. Anyone else run for that reason? (Btw, dolphins WERE spotted in the East River in 2013 and 2021 & one in the Bronx River in 2023. And then they were like "Ah Helllll No" and swam back to the ocean.) . . . #eastriverpark #runningtherapy #runninginspiration #runtoinspire #workoutmode #running #jogging #exercisetherapy #exerciseroutine #healthandwellness #runmore #nycrun
What killed Skip?!? Well, nothing. He doesn't exist, but still. π We often grapple with the enigma of causation, wondering if it's the final straw that breaks the camel's back or a slow-growing underlying risk factor that truly matters. Is it about certain thresholds holding more significance than others, or is it a question of our own capacity to handle adversity? The lack of clear answers to what causes certain events is unsettling - it leaves us on edge, as we crave the addictive comfort of answers that boost our confidence, deserved or not. There are established methods to explore causation, and here I'll demonstrate one approach, particularly related to mortality. However...in a philosophical sense, I believe that most of causation remains a mystery, eluding our current understanding. To me, it's the love child of a cosmic smorgasbord and a game of dominoes, the grandchild of genetic soup and Pie in the Sky...and its God parents are Father Time and an unpredictable Leprechaun that likes to fill up pots, but not always with gold. The critical question is: what do we do with our understanding of causation? I suppose we can take studied patterns and documented risks and work to minimize them in our daily lives. Why not. It will not solve the ultimate puzzle (after all, "why do bad things happen to good people?") but I suppose it helps us navigate the labyrinth of life's uncertainties. Still, get used to the uncertainties...they aren't going away anytime soon...no matter how many coffee mug videos I make. πβοΈπ #causation #healthpodcast #life #healthandwellness #healthylifestyle #publichealth #wellnesspodcast #mysteryoflife
Who has a local honey? πβ€οΈπ―π I am in love with the new flavor of local honey I just got from the farmers market. It's soooo tasty! And full of health benefits. Yaz, I got watch the sugar, but it's soooo good. Anyhow, what kind of honey do you use? What do you use honey for? Let me know in the comments below. :) Btw ..my dad is a veterinarian and often uses Manuka honey to help dog wounds/sores heal faster. Really great stuff and helps support our local bees that are unfortunately in trouble. :( . . #honey #localhoney #rawhoney #farmersmarket #healthylifestyle #healthandwellness #healthandwellnesspodcast

Why is our healthcare system backwards? The Commonwealth Fund's most recent analysis comparing the US healthcare system to similar, high-income nations ranks us LAST out of 11 countries in: efficiency, access, equity and health outcomes. Yet we are the most expensive health system. That is pathetic. It only makes sense because of what we prioritize the most: π²π²π²π² What can be done to change the system? . . #health #healthcare #universalhealthcare #publichealthnerd #publichealth #healthpodcast #publichealthpodcast #healthcareworkers #healthandwellnesspodcast #healthsystem #healthcareinnovation #healthcareworker
I recently added juggling to my workouts. I used to do this for hours as a kid, not realizing then the meditative effects it had on me: keeping me focused, calm, and in the present moment. I'm nowhere near as good as I once was, but the mental effect is there. (And who knows...maybe with a little practice, I'll get there. π) So...today's meditation is about juggling expectations. And when I inevitably drop the ball, my dog swoops in..., mostly because I turned his love of balls into a metaphor:πππ But seriously...in the chaos of it all..., between life, work, good health, bad health, good times, bad times, darkness, light, limbo and sidelines...one reliable truth is that you'll never meet all the expectations put on you. I'll drop the ball. You'll drop the ball. I'll disappoint people, you'll disappoint people. But no matter what ball you drop, your dog will always have your back. Your dog will always remind you that you are a-ok just as you are. We probably don't deserve them or their unerring devotion. But man, we are beyond blessed to have them as our best friends on this here Earth.
