#ad Eating healthier has been harder than I thought. I completely overlooked the huge obstacles of special occasions like big games, and the challenges they bring to stay on track with New Year’s resolutions of eating healthy. BUT, I kept the course and found some awesome healthy game day snacks at @fredmeyerstores. I’m a sucker for buffalo wings and my local Fred Meyer store has all different kinds: frozen, from the deli, or you can make your own with some cut up chicken breast and your favorite hot sauce. I also got the vegetable based ranch which is part of the Simple Truth organic brand at Fred Meyer, and we made this crazy cool vegetable football tray with some fresh organic carrots and broccoli. We got to do a little date day! We just rode bikes but the kids were at grandpa and gigi’s house so we got to hang out ALL BY OURSELVES. That’s happened maybe 3 times in the last year. Kelsey said we should take some cute coupley photos by the river and I said “like high school dance couple photos?” She just 🙄. It was nice to just get to hang out the two of us though. We need to do it more often and it was a reminder to keep our mental health in check just as much as our physical health during everything going on. It’s a balancing act. Planning our next Wander Wagon adventures! We’re hoping to finish the remodel this spring and are getting started this week. We’re stoked and can’t wait to get out and explore. We’ve been hanging out in the Wander Wagon lately, dreaming of our next adventure and these two are the cutest adventure buddies I know. This girl. I learn so much from her. She see’s the good in everyone and every situation. Even the “scary monsters”. She always has. It is a lesson I learn repeatedly in life and lived it first hand when we lived in the van and relied on strangers and faith. I quickly learned there are more good people out there than bad and that all of us have good inside. Ultimately, I believe everyone is doing their best to perpetuate goodness. It may be misplaced or manipulated but everyone is trying, and when coming into a disagreement with that mindset it helps me to understand the other person is just trying to do good in their definition which helps the respect for one another stay in tact. So I try to find the good like Junie does. If it snows and you hate the snow, Junie would probably remind you to “look at all the free snow cones you can have today!” Find the good today! ✌🏼

Let’s talk about mom guilt. Most of the time I have a pretty good handle on it. But, this weekend it reared its head something fierce. I cried hysterically to my husband feeling like I was trying to do it all and failing at everything. I remember when I was a senior in college, I had a meeting with my professor to discuss my future plans after graduation. As an anthropology student, we talked about possibly going to grad school and what direction I was most interested in. But, when we were finishing up I finally asked her the question I really wanted to know- how did she balance her career and being a mom? How was she able to do it all? I remember being dissatisfied with her answer, I guess I was hoping for something concrete like a step-by-step telling me how to make it work. Now, looking back I can only guess she maybe felt like she wasn’t doing it all- that no one could. We can only make our choices and do the best we can. Balance is something I’m constantly searching for and reworking. To have an identity outside of motherhood is important to me and it’s the example I want to live for Juniper. But, what balance looks like to me and our family might look completely different to you. We make our choices and do the best we can. I’ve been struggling to show up here the last few days. It all has been very heavy and posting pretty, happy photos just felt tone deaf and suffocating. But, I found this photo today. Back from a few years ago when we were traveling in the first RV and Junie was only 1.5 years old. When I looked at it, it took my breath away for a moment. I mean- can you believe how beautiful this world is?! It was a little reminder for me that life is such a precious gift and beauty can be found even during the darker times. Don’t let yourself be swallowed up by it all- look for the people who bring light into the world and look for that same light within yourself.
