We have come together to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children and adults who have been victims of child sexual abuse.
It is common knowledge that sexual abuse causes insecurity, low self-esteem, feelings of excessive guilt, and deep shame. According to some specialists I spoke to, I also had an increased risk for substance abuse, unsafe sexual behavior, eating disorders, self-harm, and extremely low self-esteem. According to statistics, 1 in every 3 teens in the U. S. is a victim of some abuse, whether physical, sexual, or emotional. Your child or friend is spending all their time with the partner only, and it is apparent the partner is very jealous of even a little time spent with others.
As a ministry, King’s Treasure Box is dedicated to the healing of sexual abuse survivors; therefore, we want to focus attention on the strength and healing of the survivors that can be witnessed in this documentary. In the documentary, many of these women expressed how their day in court gave them back a piece of themselves and was the opportunity they needed to truly begin their healing process. After so many traumatic events including their abuse, Epstein’s plea deal, and his ultimate escape from accountability, the finality of this symbolic trial not only helped them heal but also reflects a change in our society. At the end of the documentary, survivor Virginia Roberts Guiffre notes that while Epstein has met his fate and she has thankfully found ways to heal, her journey is far from over.
The most alarming concern plaguing our hearts at King’s Treasure Box is not the corona virus or city riots. This year’s need for social distance has caused families to be stressed and isolated, children to remain home from school and child protective agencies to be limited in helping stop abuse. King’s Treasure Box has been working tirelessly on new projects to help others heal and to end the cycle of abuse. Our friends, Jingles, Lil’J and Antiny are traveling overseas to help the children in Italy and other European countries heal.
Because of the overwhelming feelings of depression, isolation, anxiety, and anger, many survivors turn to drugs or alcohol to cope and suppress their painful memories and emotions. According to the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, “14% of all men in prison and 36% of women in prison in the USA were abused as children, about twice the frequency seen in the general population. If professional therapy isn’t right for the male survivor at this time, these resources can be valuable and safe places to express pain and begin healing. His Jam is a book written for boys who have been sexually abused but many adult men have found comfort and healing after reading about the battle Lil’ J fights against Lie Monsters in his journey to heal.
