’s life and travels are well documented in a fairly new museum/visitor center built a few miles from where she was born in Church Creek, Maryland. The story of Harriet Tubman’s life continues on the grounds outside the museum. For those who want to learn more about where Harriet Tubman was born, worked, worshipped, and fled, one of the tall pillars outside the museum showcases the 125-mile Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad The museum detailed the story of how 6-year old Harriet Tubman was forced to wade into the water of the Black Water National Wildlife Refuge to catch muskrats for her slave owner, Edward Brodess.
I want to end this month with a quick look back at last year. I wish I could share all the details of wonderful trips that I had taken, but with COVID, all my plans evaporated. As a birthday present to myself, I had scheduled this adventure to see a new continent together with my youngest son. Instead, based on reader visits, this post will be A Year in Review:
As your eyes scan each wall, you notice large black letters near the ceiling spelling out “Carol Lombard & Clark Gable Memorial Room. She said back in the early 1940’s, Clark Gable’s great love, third wife and successful actress, Carol Lombard was flying back to California with her mother and her agent after filming her 57th movie and doing a publicity war bond selling tour. Rushing to the closest town of Goodsprings, Gable and the press holed up inside the Saloon for three days as rescuers searched the mountain for the plane.
