Spanish rail equipment manufacturer CAF plans to acquire Polish bus builder Solaris, a move intended to “broaden the company’s range of products in electric mobility and multimodal door-to-door solutions. The company offers a range of powertrains, including hybrid, trolleybuses, battery-electric and fuel cell. , we will create a leader in urban mobility solutions beyond rolling stock, particularly in the e-mobility segment,” said Andres Arizkorreta, CEO of CAF. The combination of both companies’ know-how in production, design, technology and services, together with the track record of Solaris in bus product innovation, will allow us to better serve our clients.”
Volkswagen Group Canada has formed a new company called Electrify Canada, with a similar mission to that of Electrify America, the US charging network that Volkswagen was required to establish as part of the settlement over its diesel emissions cheating scandal. Electrify Canada will build an ultra-fast DC charging network in the Great White North, beginning with 32 charging sites near highways and in major metro areas in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Power levels will range from 150 kW to 350 kW, and 50 kW charging will also be available to support today’s EVs. The Canadian electric vehicle market is growing, creating a great need for charging that is fast, convenient and available in key locations,” said Volkswagen Group Canada CEO Daniel Weissland.
To test the minimum input voltage turn-on level, the DC-DC converter is turned on using the nominal input voltage and applying the maximum rated output current using the electronic load. To confirm that the DC-DC converter would turn on with a Maximum Load on the output, the input voltage would be set to the minimum and toggled off and on while measuring the output voltage and current. The Hold-Up test indicates the timing from when the input drops below the minimum input voltage and the output voltage drops below its minimum regulated output tolerance (See figure 3). The differences between the 2 methods are: FOLD BACK Current Limit: as the load current increases above the current limit set point, the output voltage begins to decrease and limits the output current supplied to the load.
Tesla recently filed a patent on a new technology that could make its battery packs safer. The system is designed to isolate damage caused by failed battery cells, and prevent them from affecting intact cells in the pack
