In a March 2 story (Life, Page A6) on Buddhism, Brendan Reed said that “(Buddhist) meditation can co-exist with Christianity. It is an active thought process where one studies the word, prays over it, asking God to give them understanding through the Holy Spirit and then putting these truths into practice living by the Scriptures. In Reed’s meditation practice, he seeks “self-enlightenment” and looks inward for inspiration and direction, but the Bible teaches that our search for direction should be founded upon God’s word, and it is through Christian prayer or meditation one seeks God’s enlightenment of the believer. It is always good to be aware of one’s surroundings, acknowledging our blessings and being present with those around us, but a Christ follower should also stay focused on God’s faithfulness in the past (Psalm 77:12) and live with an eternal perspective rejoicing in God’s faithfulness to come in our future home with Christ.
But there’s one problem – for me, repentance comes with tears and in a room full of people, tears can be embarrassing. In that WholyFit class, I was overcome with the desire to lay my fear and my anxiety at the foot of the Cross and allow God to work in my mother’s life. I’ve seen mourning tears after the loss of loved ones, I’ve seen tears due to physical pain in the body, anxiety tears, frustration tears, repentance tears, and so on. Dear Lord, Thank You for our ability to shed tears.

The first time I experienced WholyFit alongside my mother was at a church that was a thirty to forty minute drive away from our houses. As we drove along, the traffic lessened and we reached the long, winding country road with only a few cars along it, we began to feel much more calm. As a WholyFit participant at the time, I was overcome with peace while participating in Julia Faia’s WholyFit class. Dear Everlasting Father, We thank You for WholyFit.
