Prior to the world wars, minor league baseball went through several growing pains, with teams being added and dissolving, leagues forming and re-forming, and harsh events seeming to try and dismantle baseball. The team stubbornly held on even past World War II, after which the arrival of TV and AC in homes encouraged fans to stay home rather than go out to ballgames. In his book No Bull: The Real Story of the Durham Bulls and the Rebirth of a Team and a City, Ron Morris details the struggles Miles Wolff went through to revive baseball in Durham. And yet, if you go to a Bulls game today you’ll notice that Wolff and subsequent owners obviously caved because the games today are known for being incredibly fun.
You can learn about do’s and don’t’s before you even step foot in another country, and just knowing you’ve made a connection with someone from that country can help you feel better, more safe and comfortable when you do take that trip. And you can choose to keep this very minimal if you like, but I do suggest you making ties with at least the following people on your trip: Someone who works at your hotel/hostel/AirbnbOthers staying at your same lodgings For the first group, these are people responsible for making sure you had a good experience. Likewise, if you haven’t traveled much yet but all you’ve heard about travel isn’t appealing to you, there is a chance you just haven’t heard about it in a way that appeals to you. People who build their lives a certain way because that’s how it’s supposed to be.
Welcome to Define Your Travels, a travel blog geared toward inspiring women to travel (especially solo!) by debunking travel myths and helping you discover your own travel path. I’m Martha, a native North Carolinian who has dedicated her free time to solo traveling in the most authentic way possible for the past 15 years, always talking to locals and trying to get as involved in the culture as possible. Whether you’re on a time crunch, short on cash, looking to get started traveling or how to travel better, these tips will help you and inspire you on your journey.
I’m an introvert and I like having control over how often I interact with people.– Solo travel isn’t any more dangerous than group travel if you’re smart about it. was nobody wanted to ask anyone else to take their picture, when that was supposedly the whole premise of the tour With that in mind, knowing if solo travel is for you or not boils down to one simple thing: you won’t know until you try. Below find a list of some that I recommend: Purposeful Nomad (dedicated to developing genuine relationships, experiencing less-traveled places, and involving volunteers in programs to help the communities they travel to).Women Traveling Together (international and domestic travel; allow for suggestions on future trips)The Women’s Travel Group (with 27 years under their belt, they have the experience you’re looking for)G Adventures (offering a wide variety of travel styles, such as wellness tours, rail tours, and local living tours)REI Adventures (offering women-only trips, with varying levels of difficulty (based on physical stamina, and a packing list for each trip) It’s a spur of the minute decision and you don’t want to have to wait for anyone else to commit before booking your trip Keep in mind that, of course, the list above isn’t an exhaustive one, but it should help get the wheels of your mind churning and give you plenty of ideas to get started.
