Not to be missed is the La Roche Merveilleuse lookout point that faces the highest peak in the Indian Ocean – Piton Des Neiges (snow peak). The R2 (130km) crosses the island from north to south, from the coastline to the highest summits (Piton des Neiges and Piton de la Fournaise). A 35-minute early morning heli flip, along the Trois Circques route, saw us fly over the active Piton de la Fournaise crater and the three collapsed calderas of Piton Des Neiges. Though this lava tunnel (one of six on Réunion Island that you can go spelunking through) is 6km long, we only explored the first kilometre in the direction towards Piton de la Fournaise in the two hours with our guide Jan.

The malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North-West province is the fifth largest game reserve in South Africa.

The Star Ferry is probably one of the most poplar tourist attractions in Hong Kong and the most picturesque way to get between Victoria Harbour (on Hong Kong Island) and Kowloon. As Lamma Island is located 3km southwest of Hong Kong Island, it’s quick (30 minutes), easy and affordable to reach via the pier.
We associate it with sticky Pad Thai along Bangkok’s Khao San Road, a Vipassana meditation retreat or perhaps a Muay Thai boot camp on an island down south.
