During your walk, you will enjoy historic landmarks such as the Silas W. Robbins House Bed and Breakfast, the Buttolph-Williams House, Temple Beth Torah, the Chester Bulkey House Bed and Breakfast, and the Hurlbut-Dunham House. A large group had just started their tour while I was in the garden taking photos, so I was fortunate enough that I was given a solo tour of the three homes. The tour guides at the Webb Deane Stevens Museum were so friendly, and you could tell they shared a lot of enthusiasm about the properties, the history of the homes, and the Old Wethersfield area. I didn’t take the tour of the property, but I did chat with the tour guides at the Webb Dean Stevens Museum about the home.
The area of Swanzey, NH has six bridges you can visit in as little as one to two hours. Located in Winchester, NH, The Ashuelot Covered Bridge is the longest of the bridges at 169 feet in length. The Slate Bridge, located in Swanzey, NH was built in 1862 as a 123-foot long Town Lattice Truss bridge. The Sawyers Crossing Bridge, built in 1859, has similar characteristics of the Carlton and Slate bridges with red and white charm welcoming you to the other side of the river.
I edited these photos a while ago, and I’m not sure why I didn’t post them, but with the upcoming snow storm today, I thought it would be a good time to post! I knew East Haddam was going to be packed, as the town had quickly become an overnight tourist attraction in a month when it was typically a pretty quiet in town. I wasn’t exactly sure where I wanted to start taking photos, but earlier in the week, I had been down by the boat ramp and the ice looked pretty spectacular down there, so I briefly stopped at the bridge and took a few photos while the sun was rising and then jumped in my car to go down to the boat launch. If you had the chance to get down to East Haddam for the ice jams, what did you think?
Clark’s Sugar House is a rustic sugar house that was the most unique of the sugar houses we visited. Atkins Family Sugar House was the last sugar house on our New Hampshire Maple Month tour. Shawn had a passion for syrup making and was able to grow his operation to what it is today, an award-winning Best Syrup in New Hampshire sugar house. If you are interested in touring a few sugar houses, be sure to head over to the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association’s website where they have an interactive map you can view showing you all the sugar houses in New Hampshire.
