Luckily, Lowe’s sponsored this video, so we were able to transform our old and outdated mudroom/laundry room into a clean and modern space that is both, beautiful and functional. My wife and I spent many nights choosing paint colors, tile designs, and room accents, all of which was made easy by searching Lowe’s inventory. There are some basic chapters to laying tile; laying the underlayment, applying mortar, laying the actual tile, adding grout, and sealing the grout. Laying tile,” needed more material than I had planned, and we almost didn’t finish the floor because we ran out of tile.
For this R2 build, I am using the amazing community at the R2 Builders Club for help and inspiration. I went to www.astromech.net and found a wealth of information about material types, build plans, templates, and even access to specialized parts vendors. There are tons of different build options, but I chose to build the bulk of the unit out of styrene and cover it with screen-accurate aluminum panels. Josh cut the different pieces out of the specific thicknesses of styrene and I got busy assembling.
To solve this two-part problem, I wanted to make a slab bench with a drip tray for our wet boots. To connect the legs to the top, I welded on a 2 inch-wide piece of flat stock to the tops of each leg. We set the legs into place, pre-drilled the mounting holes, and attached the legs with some lag screws. I designed the bench with this tray in mind, so the boot tray could sit inside the bench legs.
We also recently got three cats who love to swat at our Christmas tree and climb inside it. In our first attempt at this project, Josh sliced his original Christmas Tree model so that we could stack a bunch of cardboard sheets together like a giant cake. Next, I glued in the front tree pieces followed by the two middle pieces until each piece was nice and secure. I placed the tree in the front room, far away from our actual Christmas tree to help divert their attention away from it.
