Lis did her very first ODE today – not only that it was her first Prelim test on Finn, her first SJ competitive round in 2 years and only her second ever time XC jumping – so all in all very new territory! Now Finn and Lis are the complete opposite of Stan and Laya – whereas if you blink you’d miss the splodgy beast, Lis is a little more laid back about life so she and Finn casually sauntered their way around the course, a little encouragement needed at the shark’s teeth, but finishing clear and with a huge smile on her face! ! However, she forgot she had on Laya’s air jacket so jumped down from Finn to hit he ground with a bang as her jacket went off and puffed up around her like a balloon!
2 poles (Oh Stanley) in the first round of the 90cm, and then a long wait til the second round, which I had gone up to 1m and this time he went CLEAR – always a big thing for the youngun as he can drop the odd pole This is a light-hearted record of our girls as they both start out in their chosen fields in the world of competitive riding. We compete on a budget and have to fit the ponies in between my work and the girls’ school & homework, without the luxury of grooms or unlimited funds. The girls keep their ponies on their dad’s farm and they do everything for them, from mucking out to grooming, tack cleaning (occasionally in Laya’s case! )
We headed down the road to Poltimore Park for the Silverton Hunt Pony Club mini ODE. Dressage she felt he felt went well but a score of 37.1 with lots of ‘hurried’ comments shows there’s still lots of work needed here! clear – good boy Staniel Laya’s favourite part – the XC – and he flew round clear absolutely loving it
Luckily bumped into Emma there who walked the course with her and talked her through the fences and lines, and then warmed her up so I stayed out of the way, as I was surplus to requirements! ! Fully expected a cricket score of dropped poles as it was ridiculously hot and he’s been stood around waiting for 2 hours as I misjudged the class timings! There was also the water filled dyke to contend with, and a bank to jump up as well as a bizarre mound to ride over with upright plank 1 stride afterwardswhich had “ But Laya rode beautifully, calm and fab lines and although he looked at the dyke she kept him straight and he jumped it with no problems, and they jumped clear – SHOCK HORROR! .
