Hey I'm Sheree, the awkward British wanderluster behind Winging the World. Honestly, I find the world terrifying. That's what adventure is all about right?
They’re hunted to be used as the primary ingredient for Scotland’s national dish, haggis, neeps and tatties. There are two different kinds of haggis, one with a longer set of legs on the left side which can only run clockwise and the other type with a longer set of right legs which run anti-clockwise. Burns was the first to really draw attention to Scotland’s national dish through his poem Wild haggis are native to the highlands so you’ll need to be in the hills if you are going to stand any chance of seeing them.
Day Trips from Norwich by Train or Bus Train is a great way to travel within East Anglia. The market town of Thetford is a good choice for those looking for a day trip from Norwich which doesn’t involve too much travelling. It takes around the same time to drive to Cambridge from Norwich but many don’t find the city easy to navigate. Continuing on the theme of history, make sure you cram in a visit to the English Heritage site St Botolph’s Priory, just a few minutes from the train station.
Most of the ruin of Duntulm Castle dates from the 17th century and it is believed that the first castle construction could be attributed to the MacLeod clan. In the 16th century, Hugh MacDonald, owner of Casiteal Uisdean (Hugh’s Castle) and nephew of Clan MacDonald chief Donald Gorm Mor, devised a plot to kill his uncle and take control of the clan. The out and back trail to Duntulm Castle begins at the parking bay on the road in Duntulm. Located in Duntulm, it’s close to the castle while also being ideally located near to Staffin which has more amenities.
Compared to the Old Man Of Storr, the Quiraing or the Fairy Glen, hiking to Coire Lagan offers a quiet, albeit challenging way to spend the day. It’s unlikely you’ll have the trail to yourself but the rough hike and short scramble puts off the majority of Skye’s day-trippers. Trust me when I say, it is well worth the effort to get there! The trail is a challenge but offers an incredible day hike. Although you don’t need to be an experienced hillwalker to hike to Coire Lagan, I would advise only taking on the trail if you have a decent level of fitness and walk regularly.
