Town of Silver Gate Caught In the Crossfire After Wolf Shooting

A bill, introduced by Montana state Senator Mike Phillips after 926F’s killing,  was conceived to ban the hunting and trapping of wolves in two wolf-management zones outside the northern boundary of Yellowstone. I messaged Silver Gate business owners to see if they supported the idea of a ban on wolf hunting around the Silver Gate and Cooke City area. I don’t believe that making life difficult for a few small business owners in this very small area will have any affect on the Montana State Legislature or the policies of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. It might make people feel better to boycott our area, or not support [the business of the man who shot 926F] but I don’t believe that is going to achieve the goal of allowing wolves (or any animal) to wander out of the park and not got shot.

Wolf-Friendly Businesses in Silver Gate and Cooke City, Montana

Our goal here is to compile a list of businesses who have confirmed they are in support of a ban on wolf hunting and trapping around Silver Gate and Cooke City. If you are a business owner in Silver Gate or Cooke City and would like to publicly proclaim your support for the no-hunting zone for wolves, please do so in the comments below or contact us to be included on this list. More About the No-Hunting Zone Controversy in Silver Gate and Cooke City It should be noted that it was a Cooke City resident (and business owner) who killed the wolf in Silver Gate, not a Silver Gate resident. Instead, we should support the businesses who do support wildlife and a no-hunting zone around Silver Gate and Cooke City.

Alberta's Best Outdoor Experiences

Consequently, it’s not surprising that the best places to visit in Alberta are mostly natural, especially when you consider that the Canadian Rockies cut right through the western half of the province. When it comes to beautiful places in Canada, the pair of national parks within Alberta’s portion of the Canadian Rockies almost always top the list. The Canadian Badlands, which sit near the city of Drumheller to the east of Calgary on the way to Saskatchewan, can come as a complete surprise (and that’s even discounting the World’s Tallest Dinosaur statue, which sits in Drumheller’s town center). From relatively mainstream entries like Banff and Jasper National Parks, to the bizarre hoodoo rock formations of the Canadian Badlands, the majesty of the Canadian Rockies is Alberta’s most defining feature, but only the beginning of the province’s beauty.

Wildlife and Whale Watching in Tofino, BC

Bears, wolves and cougars mingle side by side with grey whales, sea lions, killer whales, and sea otters, making Tofino one of Canada’s top wildlife watching destinations. On your whale tour you can also see steller sea lions, sea otters, and harbor porpoises among other sea mammals, as well as a wide variety of sea birds and bald eagles. The bears don’t seem to be bothered by boats near the shore, but they will leave if another bear approaches their feeding area. For a full experience, hike the Wild Pacific Trail, or stay at the Green Point campground at Long Beach (open May 1 to mid-October)
