We’re hosting a Friendsgiving this year and I’m so excited to entertain our guests and make new memories around the dining room table. If you plan on having messy kids at the table, you can use paper placemats that can go right in the trash after dinner! Knives go on the right side of the plate and spoons go on the right side of the knife. If you plan to have seating assignments, this is a cheap and cute idea to set on each plate.
I use this Ryobi cordless drill for pretty much all of my woodworking DIY projects. For those larger sanding projects, make sure to have a few charged batteries on hand because this little sander goes through the batteries pretty quick! The base is very sturdy and this saw is perfect for our smaller DIY projects. With a stronger battery you won’t need to change it out as often, especially when using a circle saw which draws a lot of power.
Sand down the shelf and trim piece using a coarse grit sand paper then moving to a finer grit sandpaper. Using 1 1/4″ pocket screws, secure the short frame pieces to the long frame piece. Apply your 1 1/2″ trim piece to the shelf using wood glue and brad nailer (1 1/2″ nails). Place your shelf on top of the frame and use a brad nailer to nail the shelf to the frame.
Once you get the plywood top cut to size, you can start adding the 1″ x 6″ pieces and cut as you go. Use wood glue and your 2 1/2″ screws to secure the supports to the table legs. Line up the top corner of your 1″ x 6″ and keep making 45 degree cuts until you fill your entire plywood board. Use a scrap piece of wood as a guide and clamp it down so that you can make a straight cut down the edge of your herringbone table.
