Spending 3 days in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka

Spending 3 days in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka After flying from Chiang Mai to Bangkok-with a 4 hour layover in BKK, we touched down at Bandaranaike International Airport in the late evening. By the time we swiped our key card unlocking the door to our room, we wanted nothing more than to fall into a deep sleep that would replenish us for our first full day in Sri Lanka

BEES-Burm and Emily’s Elephant Sanctuary

We also work to educate the local community and provide resources in the local area to get the domestic animal population the care they need e.g. sterilizations, emergency care, preventative treatments and mobile clinic services. The sanctuary is a beautiful natural refuge for elephants in need of retirement, medical care, or just temporary rest with the dream that the elephants may be able to permanently stay and live out the remainder of their lives in peace, free from abuse and exploitation. We were picked up in Chiang Mai (Check out our Vegan guide to Chiang Mai), and drove about 3 hours to Mae Chaem, a beautiful district in Chiang Mai province surrounded by lush emerald rice terraces, and more natural beauty than you can take in. Prior to lunch, Burm cut down some bamboo and fresh mint, and walked us to his family’s rice paddy where we sat up in a traditional Thai sala and enjoyed our food amongst all of the natural beauty.

It can be tricky to stick to the lifestyle you want when you’re heading to a foreign country where the cuisine is new and you don’t know the language, but it doesn’t have to be all bad
