We were trying to figure out a way to donate or recycle what we were finding when we came up with the idea to repurpose old tennis rackets as Urban Anglers USA “River Rat” fishing nets. The carbon fiber frames are normally only found in high price fishing nets, but by using old equipment that would normally end up as trash, we can offer superior strength and quality at a much lower price. We don’t always find full sized trash, so we also offer junior sized tennis racket nets as “CreekRats. This project started with just the rackets we were finding in the river, but as the RiverRats have become more popular, we have been hitting up garage sales and dumpster diving in an effort to up-cycle old rackets and reduce plastic in the local landfill.
I set up a home office in my upstairs den with a desk from the VT office, a large US map, my bulletin board and a filing cabinet. There are many benefits from working at home – preparing lunch vs. brown bagging it; throwing a load of laundry into the washer/dryer; stepping out your door to go for a walk on a beautiful day; flexibility with appointments and most importantly getting dinner ready. But working from home was quite a transition for me from being in an office with people to being alone until my husband Joe gets home at 3:30. Casting for Recovery is excited to team up with this year’s community partners: Bridger Babes, Montana Conservation Corps, Montana Outdoor Science, Mountain Mamas, Mountain Wilderness School and SheJumps. No Man’s Land exists to empower creatives and athletes in the world of adventure film and photography.
