The guilt will always be there but it shouldn’t stop you from chasing your dreams. Take it from someone who has moved abroad almost a decade ago. If you’re feeling like this, it’s completely normal. there’s even a term for it called: expat guilt - a feeling of having committed a wrong or failed in an obligation x 100! Yes, it sucks to miss out on birthdays, weddings, graduations of loved ones but what is going to suck even more is continuing to live with those ‚what ifs‘ in the back of your mind. What if you had just done it and booked thosed flights? What if you‘ll never get to experience moving abroad? What if your family would actually be happier for you when you are the happiest? It‘s definitely a lot of emotions to go through and it’s a good idea to openly discuss them with your closest ones. For me it’s also a great motivator to make more money - so whenever I do feel homesick or like I‘m missing out or want to be around loved ones it‘s always an option that is available to me. And Luckily we live in a day and age where staying in contact with loved ones is sooo much easier then a few decades ago. Jus remember there’s nothing wrong with exploring our beautiful earth and deciding that the country you’ve lived in for the past 20 years isn’t what you want to wake up to anymore. And it’s so important to create a life that brings YOU peace and joy, even if it may look different from what your closest ones are doing and think is best for you. If anybody wants my Google Doc with the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa Checklist in it + some more research send me a private message saying “SPAIN” in it 💌 People can now start applying for the Digital Nomad Visa in Spain. Story time: I’ve been a digital nomad for over 4 years. However, I’ve never applied for a Digital Nomad Visa. I simply don’t spend enough time in one place for me to consider it right now. However, a lot of my clients, students and people in my community are super interested in them and some have even successfully secured such a visa. For 2023 I told myself that I would really dig deep into this whole Digital Nomad world and give it a go to see what the process would be like from A - Z so I have a better understanding of what my clients are dealing with. (instead of simply referring them out to my colleague migration agents/lawyers). Fast forward to February when I heard that people could finally apply for the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa and I thought ‘well, here goes nothing. I said I would do it’. Let me just clarify that I wasn’t going to fully apply for it because I’ve got EU citizenship nonetheless, I looked in very much detail at the whole process, official forms, regulation, common FAQs so, I could lay it out step by step. And oh boy 🤯 Maybe I should have chosen a less bureaucratic country.🫠 +6 hours of research later and there are still lots of questions up in the air. Not about the process or documentation submission, that part I nailed down. But the tax, social security questions and some more.🤯🤯 But as always, don’t let tax or legal logistics hold you back from living your preferred lifstyle. If Spain is where you feel called to be, the effort put into this application process will surely benefit you. Anyway, ticked off one big, odd, challenging to do box for my 2023. Portugal announced Upcoming end of their Golden Visa Program Here‘s some important info you should keep in mind: On Feb. 16, 2023, the Portuguese Prime Minister announced a set of measures to alleviate the housing problem in Portugal. These measures in part impact and call for termination of the Portuguese immigrant investor program known as Golden Visa. ‼️The announcement does not immediately constitute a change in law. In other words, the Portuguese Prime Minister and his government do not have the legislative ability to eliminate or change the Golden Visa Program. Under Portuguese law, only the Parliament has that ability. It is expected that the Assembly will receive a proposal from the Government to this end which they will then vote on. Prior to any vote taking place there will be a mandatory one-month period during which public hearings can be conducted on the matter, after which a final proposal can be sent to the Assembly for discussion on March 16. The Assembly has 15-20 days to review the proposal. If it is approved, the measure will be sent to the President who can then ratify, reject, accept the proposal or not make any changes at all. ➡️ Any changes will have a clearly defined effective date which is NOT the date of the announcement that everyone is talking about (including the media) ‼️Nonetheless it’s important to see this as a last call to action for anyone that is interested in the Golden Visa in Portugal because it truly might not be around for much longer.
