Autumn is probably my favorite season in New England, not just because this is the time when the outdoors are best explored, but the brisk weather is often perfect for an energizing, active getaway.
The Welch Dickey hike is a relatively strenuous 4.5 miles hike with an elevation gain of 1800 feet, which should be done with proper hiking shoes as it can become a bit slippery when wet, and is sometimes a bit of a scramble.
These are cabins located about an hour and half driving from Boston, close to Concord, NH, and easily accessible by car, but cleverly laid out in a piece of forest that creates an out-of-time, powerfully resourcing atmosphere.
