Let’s talk about mental health. Mental health was never discussed when I was growing up. In my Liberian household, it was taboo to even be sad because adults would always say, “you have food and a home, what does a child have to be sad about?” as if that was not the bare minimum. Though never diagnosed, I have struggled with depression my whole life. I found escape outside of my house, because it never really felt like a home. Going to my neighborhood park, riding my bike, and going to hang out with friends helped me care for my mental health. Now, as an adult, I have even more outlets that help and comfort me. I’ve realized that my traumatic past does not define me or determine my future. 1 in 5 people in the U.S. experience a mental health challenge every year, and stigma is one of the main reasons people don’t seek help. This is why I am partnering with @whatmakesusmw to talk about mental health and reduce the stigma. I am thankful to be sharing my story, and I encourage you to do so as well! #whatmakesus #ad
