Moose, elk, deer, bears, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and wolverines are just a few of the animals that call this park home. You’ll have the best chance of spotting wildlife if you get out of your car and hike a little, but that’s not to say you may not also see some really awesome animals from the comfort of your car. Located on the west side of Glacier National Park, Lake McDonald Valley is home to scenic vistas, great hiking trails, historic chalets, and wonderful waterfalls. The total elevation gain is 425 feet, so it’s another fairly easy hike if you hike regularly.

The New River and New River Gorge Bridge are also both national landmarks (exciting for everyone working to get stamps in their National Parks Passport Book). The New River Gorge National River offers a variety of hiking trails throughout different areas of the park. This trail is 2.9 miles and leads to a rocky outcrop (Long Point) and provides beautiful panoramic views of the gorge, New River Gorge Bridge and the cliffs of the Endless Wall Trail. For the best views of the New River Gorge Bridge, you can take a New River Jet Boat ride up the river right into the rapids in front of the bridge.

You must have a valid passport and obtain an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ETSA) prior to travel. If you are a citizen or national from a VWP-designated country but have visited any of the following countries (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen) on or after March 1, 2011, you are required to obtain a visa prior to travel as you are no longer eligible to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program due to the Terrorist Travel Prevention Act. If you are from a country not included on the VWP, then you must obtain a visa to visit the United States. To apply for a visa you must complete an online DS-160 visa application and upload a passport photo (photo guidelines) that was taken within the last six months.
