Morphology is essential to the identification of Treponema pallidum, the causative agent of syphilis. Treponema pallidum is a spirochete bacterium. Darkfield microscopy allows for the detection of Treponema pallidum based upon the spirochete’s characteristic morphology and motility. Darkfield microscopy is a valuable tool because it can be performed at the point of care.

📍Today is the 32nd World AIDS Day, an international day to raise awareness of AIDS caused by the transmission of HIV infection and a day to remember those persons who have died from AIDS. During the observance of World AIDS Day, I find myself reflecting on the past 38 years of the AIDS pandemic, which has claimed an estimated 32 million lives worldwide. 📍Sadly, 38 years later, there are many misconceptions about HIV and AIDS; much HIV-related stigma; and too many untested individuals who do Not know that they are living with HIV. 📍As we continue forward in the fight to “End the HIV Epidemic”, my vision and mission for Community HIV/AIDS Resource Exchange (CHARE) Project - CHAREproject will continue.
