A blog about updating our house including all the missteps and magic of DIY. Let's get this house updated!
I already shared on Instagram one of the biggest changes to the space (thanks to your votes on an Instagram poll! ) which was to swap the locations of our bench and entry table. Probably the change I’m happiest about in the entry is our new rug. Sources: rug | console table similar | round mirror | large basket | belly basket | tree basket | faux palm plant | blue vase | white candlesticks (Target old) | wooden beads | waves art | stripe pillow old Ikea | shoes | white egg vase | Surf Shack | bench local but similar here | light fixture | white dipped stool
I haven’t made any real changes in our dining room in the past couple of years but today I’m excited to share with you the winter art gallery wall that I created in partnership with Minted! I love that happy look but wanted to try something new for winter (and beyond) so reached out to Minted to see about partnering on creating a holiday gallery wall. I used my go-to method in creating this gallery wall which is to start with a piece you love, in this case the person walking in the snow (which comes in a few different colorways), and then added in more prints that echo the same general color scheme. So let this be a lesson to you, don’t hesitate to change your carefully curated gallery wall for the season or otherwise, especially when you can rearrange existing art to give your home a fresh look or even just add a new piece or two!
BUT next week I’ll be sharing all our exterior updates from the summer and a fun new kitchen update. In September we took a couple of long weekend trips, one to Kansas City and one to Boston. I love our existing chairs in the breakfast nook but think the space would look better with chairs that aren’t quite so solid. And I’ve been toying with the idea of some changes in our entry like maybe some rug layering, changing up the bench/console situation, maybe even bringing our smallish piano in here (weird? ? )
But I really can’t complain considering we’ve been having so much fun this summer! We’ve had quite a few weekend getaways and last night’s anniversary getaway (14 years! ! ) at the Inn at Langley on Whidbey Island was a real highlight. I’m closing out summer by wearing a ton of dresses and lately I’ve bought a few from Urban Outfitters (this one, this one in blush, and this one in peach) because they are a great price point and so easy to wear. So I’ve been re-painting all of it Benjamin Moore’s
