I watched @6ix9ine Billboard interview this morning. He said the whole industry was cap. It was the WWE. Just a bunch of fake characters. Makes me mad because there is so much truth to his statement.....even with indies starting out. 🤬 Don't get mad or talk trash about him when it takes me, or any industry professional, 30 seconds to see you paid a fake Playlist to bot up your streams. 💯 I just looked up a Playlist (see pic) that went from 11k followers, to 51k, back down to 6k in 5 months. Nobody's playlist grows or shrinks that fast. Spotify catches on and deletes 45k in one night. Your streams look just like the pic too. 🤏 Would you take an escort to your high school reunion and tell everyone it's your wife? Would you rent a lambo to impress a girl you're trying to date? Then why would you fake your streams?🤷♂️ Just like the above scenarios, you can't maintain the lie forever and eventually when you no longer have the wife, the car, or the monthly listeners....everyone figures it out and laughs at you. All credibility lost. 🤦♂️ "Well I didn't know that playlists used bots!" Yeah right, that's about as believable as you didn't know she was an escort or the car was rented. You paid for the service......you damn well knew. 🚫🧢 I'm not hear to call out, or bash, or hate. Out of love from a fathers heart, I'm trying to protect you with wisdom and guidance. I'd rather appear to be less than I am, than appear to be more than I really am. Ready to put in real work...with real artists....and pay the real price....SEM The Label. 🧠
WTH?....Who is SEM The Label? ➡️ x10 Many people are confused on what it is we are doing over here so we thought I’d bring some clarity. SEM the Label isn’t a label.”SEM” is actually the Brazilian Portuguese (my 2nd language) word for “without”. So the community name actually is “Without the Label”. Yes, you can make it without a label deal today, but you have to be able to do much of what the label did for you in the past. It’s not enough to just upload good music to Spotify. You are trying to figure out how to run a business, market, cover yourself legally, network, and a plethora of other things…………..alone! We are a group of music artists, managers, and marketers who are pursuing our dreams together, not alone. We share what’s working for us in marketing. We get access to some of the biggest names in the music industry to give us business, marketing, and legal advice. There are multiple courses and case studies, being added to and updated monthly, that you can access. We support each other, give feedback, and even work on collabs together. We teach everything (and more) that you could find in one of the $500 or $1000 courses that are out there right now for music marketing. Problem is, the internet and algorithms change so fast, your $1,000 investment might not work anymore tomorrow. Then what do you do? Buy their next course for another $1,000? The cost for you to access our community and courses is $27 a month. We chose that pricing model because it roughly equals one fast food combo meal a week. If you aren’t willing to give up lunch once a week, to pursue your dream, you wouldn’t fit in with us very well anyways. There is no contract, so try it for a month, if you don’t like it……..don’t see the value…...drop out. No biggie…..we can still be friends ;-) You don’t have to be a member to get one of these shirts either ($20). Wear it proudly, letting the world know, you are doing it “Without the Label”.
We had am awesome trip this weekend. Thrilled that my girls are getting addicted to camping, hiking, and outdoor adventures! . Palo Duro Canyon is a canyon system of the Caprock Escarpment located in the Texas Panhandle near the cities of Amarillo and Canyon. As the second-largest canyon in the United States, it is roughly 120 mi long and has an average width of 6 mi, but reaches a width of 20 mi at places.
If you don't know her....you don't take the rap game seriously. 🤷♂️ I can't do her justice in this little post but just a brief FYI: Wendy is a mentor and consultant for hip-hop artists. In about 1992, she founded the not-for-profit organization Rap Coalition, helping artists navigate the industry more advantageously. She also operates the music-consulting company PowerMoves, which advises artists and independent record labels on options without sponsorship by a major record label. PowerMoves also helps artists gain direct investors apart from record labels. She authored the book How to Get a Record Deal 📘 She negotiated Cash Money's 30 million dollar deal. 💰 She negotiated David Banner's 10 million dollar deal tax 💰 Also negotiated for Twista, Eminem, and Master P just to name a few 💰 Day organized the 1997 Rap Olympics, whereby Eminem, invited by Day via his demo tape Infinite to perform, gained an Interscope Records deal. 📀 Day also assisted Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile, the Hot Boys, C-Murder, Fiend, Do or Die, Boosie, Webbie, David Banner, Ras Kass, Trouble, and Young Buck, among others. Altogether, Day's clients have sold over $1 billion of sound recordings 💲💲💲💲 This is a private Zoom call where members of the SEM The Label artist community will be able to ask Wendy questions directly. As always, I will let a few first-time guests attend. Send me a DM if you are interested. 📩
#musicmarketingtips for Instagram!
So this week, Instagram released Reels in the USA and other regions. It's no secret it is a knock off of TikTok. The interface is almost identical. We've seen Zuck do this at least twice before. Vine was the first big one I remember. Basically put it out of business. The more recent was Snapchat. In about 6 months, IG stories passed Snapchat in amount of users. And it stuck. Most everyone I know is consuming stories more than feed now on IG. Did it stick? Yes. IG Stories has over 500M daily active users while Snap Stories has something like 200M. That's less than half. Will Reels do the same thing to TikTok? Have you watched them yet? Have you created one yet? I know the algorithm won't be as nice as TikToks as far as reach goes but the idea that you can stay on one platform, and not have the friction of two, is going to be a tough battle for TikTok to overcome in my opinion.
💥This Saturday, 8/820 at 11 AM Central, Ed Brew, CEO of LabelRadar, will be joining me and some members of the SEM The Label community, via Zoom video, for an in-depth look at submitting music to record labels. What are the problems with it❓ What’s the reality of it❓ How do we set artists up for success when pitching to labels❓ Not just the co-founder of Labelradar....but Ed has a degree in law and worked as an A&R, Head of Sync, Lable Manager, Head of Brand Partnerships, and a lot more in the music world. He is going to be a great resource and will be able to answer a lot of questions! Ed has over 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Initially working extensively in the music industry with a focus on licensing for the likes of Monstercat, Trap Nation and Disciple, he has gone on to diversify into the wider industry of entertainment as a whole. Ed has developed and overseen a variety of tech projects and co-founded a talent agency called The Hello Group, where he managed many high profile social media influencers as well as major label artists and Grammy-winning songwriters. He has worked in influencer marketing with countless household name brands such as EA, Ubisoft, Hewlett Packard, Entertainment One, Audible, and many more. At present, he is focused on growing LabelRadar into a thriving ecosystem for artists, labels, promoters, and other decision-makers in the music industry. This company is serving over 55,000 artist! As always, I’d like to create a couple of slots for guests (not members of SEM) to attend. Shoot me a DM if interested.
