Project Reveal: Lexington Green II Part 2, Home Office and Family Room

This space is one of the darker rooms in the house, so we embraced that with a tone-on-tone warm gray wall and millwork combo, and added jewel-tone blues and greens, and brass/gold metallic accents to add some zing to the scheme. Now we are going to head out into the kitchen again to start moving into the very large β€˜family room,’ which also contains a pretty spectacular casual dining area for family meals (as opposed to the more formal dining room, used more for adult entertaining, holiday occasions, etc.). You’ll see in a minute that there is a completely other β€˜zone’ right next to this one, and I felt adding distinctive, and differentiated art installations on the wall behind them would help create definition and balance in the large gable-ceilinged space. Not to mention that each of these flowers was individually boxed and had to be carefully unpackaged and unwrapped…by me. πŸ™‚ OK, now turn around about 180 degrees and here is the actual β€˜family room’ part of the family room space!

One Room Challenge Week 3: Dance, Kung Fu & Movement Studio (Irony of a Stalled Project – and My Dance Story)

I had been looking for a dance-y group exercise class (like Zumba or Bolly-X) to do once or twice a week, as I felt it was time to get back out there, since my kids were a little older In July, I returned to the studio for private lessons (wearing a mask, of course), and started learning how to dance those 10 new routines with a partner. At the same time I began dancing, I also changed my diet and started working out in my basement in the mornings before my kids got up for school. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether or not it is completed for a Week 6 ORC reveal (even though I will feel like I have failed –

Project Reveal: Lexington Green II – Part 1, Kitchen, Dining Room & Bar

With the first round back in 2017, we overhauled the living room, foyer, powder room, and gave a partial zhushing (hello, lime green grasscloth!) to the dining room. – kitchen, bar/pantry, dining room (more zhushing!), home office, and a huge family room (really like three rooms in one large, open space). We wanted it to be very special, so no detail was spared – the green/antique mirror ceramic tile, brass cabinet grilles, Peruvian walnut countertops (with extremely durable finish, of course), polished brass bar faucet, gorgeous nickel cabinet hardware, and occasion-appropriate original art…is it 5:00PM yet? There is a casual dining area off the kitchen which the family uses for everyday meals together, but it is technically in the area of the family room, so I will just share a little peek and teaser for now, which also shows a great view all the way through the kitchen and bar into the dining room.

One Room Challenge Week 2: Dance, Kung Fu & Movement Studio – Demo Progress and Design Plans!

We are well underway with the transformation of our unused β€˜shell’ of a home theater room into a studio for dance, Kung fu, and other forms of exercise requiring a lot of floor space. Upgrading/brightening the cove lighting and wall sconces, and adding some softer color to the room – including on the millwork now – will be absolutely critical to moving away from the early 2000s man-cave look toward a studio that is inspiring and welcoming for my entire family. I am going with a tone-on-tone paint look with a light green/blue/gray color on the millwork (Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp) and a mid-tone of the same on the walls (Benjamin Moore Sea Glass). And please don’t forget to check out the One Room Challenge featured designers, who are tackling fantastical virtual projects this season, as well as many fellow guest designers who are also working on their real-life pandemic projects at home
