Here's the thirty-nineth episode of #educatorchat with @newleafpsychologicalservices, psychologist and mother. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about teaching for you? Sanober: It comes down to a few simple things. I absolutely love helping a range of individuals reach their full potential and meet their goals. I also love working through the concerns my clients have and providing them with strategies that may help them in their everyday life. Along with this, doing psycho education with clients and actually explaining how and why particular things may be occurring, how the chemicals in our brain work and how to use that information to help themselves, it is extremely rewarding. It’s a great feeling to see my clients understand what is happening and use evidence based strategies to assist them. When I see my clients making improvements and fulfilling their goals, that is the most joyful thing about teaching others about mental health.

Here's the thirty-eighth episode of #educatorchat with @aspire_counselingwell, a therapist and school counselor. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about informing others about mental health for you? Ms. Kindall Tyson: There are several things about education that bring me joy! As a Licensed Professional Counselor and professional school counselor working in education, creating a comprehensive counseling program that seeks to close achievement gaps, level the playing field for all students, and teach students about becoming empathetic, productive global citizens; supporting students as they become more self-aware, more self-accepting, grow more emotionally intelligent and academically adept with a desire to extend their learning beyond the confines of the school; advocating for culturally competent mental health and wellness education, and providing the school-wide community resources and support are the tip of the proverbial iceberg of things that bring me a sense of fulfillment when engaging in the work that I do. As a lifelong learner and mental health advocate, leading the charge to educate students, teachers, and all stakeholders about the importance of mental health and wellness as it relates to educational attainment and progression is imperative.

Here's the thirty-seventh episode of #educatorchat with @theteentherapyproject, a teen mental health educator and advocate. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about informing others about mental health for you? Ms. Azimipour: The most joyful thing about informing others about mental health for me is having people reach out and tell me that they now feel less alone or that they now know it is ok to get help. I educate people and share my story so that they can feel more comfortable and no matter how that comfort manifests, I’m happy to hear about it always. Also, when people reach out and tell me that I’ve inspired them to share their stories and to do their part in destigmatizing mental health, that is amazing and shows that this has now gotten bigger than just me. Hopefully, this will become a movement large enough to make some lasting change. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in school (elementary, junior high, high school) that we lack today? Ms. Azimipour: The most needed curriculum change/subject in school is mental health. Kids in schools especially in middle and high school need to be aware of different types of mental health and the manifestations of different mental disorders, so they can catch symptoms in themselves and others early on and get help. But in our school systems mental health is not talked about and even worse it is stigmatized, meaning that people feel like they can’t talk about it at all in class or not. If we added mental health into the school curriculum, not only would students be able to learn and grow, but they would be able to speak about their struggles in an open way. The goal is to use education to make a more healthy and conducive environment.

Here's the thirty-sixth episode of #motherchat #educatorchat with @icanjournal, a mother and business promoter for mental well-being in children. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about teaching for you? Mrs. Gibbs: The most joyful thing about teaching parents/ carers about children’s mental well-being is that I’m able to make a real difference by providing strategies and materials that can be easily implemented into daily life forming positive habits. They have such a powerful impact on the mental well-being of children and this makes me incredibly happy. I want all children to learn the power of journaling, reflection and mindfulness, and be able to be the best version of themselves. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in elementary grades that we lack today? Mrs. Gibbs: Children need to have a better understanding of feelings and emotions and a safe space to express these. I think they need to learn how to communicate feelings better and learn that it’s OK to experience different emotions. We all know that keeping things bottled up isn’t good for us, so I think time needs to be set aside for mindfulness, reflection and journaling to promote these positive habits.

Here's the thirty-fifth episode of #educatorchat with @tinytikesteacher, a teacher and mother. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about teaching for you? Mrs. Moore: The most joyful thing about teaching for me is definitely forming a connection with my students. From day one, I make my students feel welcomed and like my classroom is their second home. It really makes me joyful when I see them coming together and working like a family. Everyone can be who they are and know that they are accepted and loved. They are free to have bad days because they know that the bad days won't last forever and no one in the class is going to judge them. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in elementary grades that we lack today? Mrs. Moore: One thing that is really lacking that is going to be super important this year is a type of social-emotional curriculum. As teachers, we really need to have a background in how to help these kiddos process all their big feelings. Especially after being away from school and their teachers for so long, we as educators need to be able to try to bridge that gap as best as possible.

Here's the thirty-fourth episode of #educatorchat with @urvi_malani, a counselor. WWP: What is the most important thing about teaching (as a counselor) for you? Ms. Urvi Malani: The most important thing for me as a counselor is when I see is a progress in the way they are feeling, thinking and behaving. Even a small thing like when they observe themselves, come back and say that, yes I think I tried it and I saw a change, brings me happiness. Another thing that I love about them is how when they enter my room, I see a smile on their faces, that now they can talk to me and relax. They feel excited about doing or learning something new, which motivates me tow work even harder. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in elementary grades that we lack today? Ms. Urvi Malani: I think, in the current situation, it is very important to look at the child’s feelings. It has been observed that a lot of times, children are unaware of what they are feeling. I feel life skills and holistic development is very important.

Here's the thirty-third episode of #educatorchat with @sparklesandsprinklesinfirst, a teacher. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about teaching for you? Mrs. Hill: Seeing the looks on my student's faces when they walk into the classroom tells me my WHY. Why I enjoy teaching and seeing them grow into little humans. I want my students to know that I will be their biggest fan. I will be their protector, I promise to always defend them when no one else will. I will be their friend and confidant. I will always be proud of them unconditionally because I am their teacher. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in elementary grades that we lack today? Mrs. Hill: The most needed curriculum are history books that explain how African Americans helped shape our world today. WWP: The most important learning you had from your own students? Mrs. Hill: My students taught me to be a better teacher. To learn from my mistakes and not to be afraid to ask for help. The most precious jewels you’ll ever wear around your neck are the arms of children. They are my why. My reason for being in the classroom, my reason for hope, and my reason for a better world. Here's the thirty-second episode of #educatorchat with @teachtolovelearning, a teacher. WWP: What is the most joyful thing about teaching for you? Jessica: I LOVE the relationships I am able to build with students and families. Relationships first, always. WWP: What is the most needed curriculum or subject in elementary grades that we lack today? Jessica: Social emotional learning, 100%. It’s such a crucial component of development and should be effectively and routinely implemented in every classroom for every age. WWP: The most important learning you had from your own students. Jessica: My students have taught me how to give myself grace during tough times.
