I’m in O’ahu for six nights not for the beaches or the surf. Not for the resorts or the food though there is all that. I’m here for the culture. For 10 days, 27 Polynesian First Nations are assembling at the 13th FestPAC to share their history, their advances, and their arts. Last night at the opening ceremony, the visiting nations took turns presenting tribute gifts and dances to the host nation of Hawa’ii. I learned so much and it really felt like it might have when one sovereign visited another by canoe in ancient times. Except for the cameras, lights and stage. Otherwise, representatives from the visiting nations spoke in their own language which was translated into English and sometimes French. Today, the nations set up huts to share their creations with each other and the visiting public. There was also the official ceremony uniting Honolulu with Cook Island city of Rarotonga. Both city leaders signed a document and then there was joyful dancing. The one take away from these festivities is that most people that live on the islands are happy. What’s not to be happy about? Gorgeous weather, beautiful water and a bounty of healthy sea life to enjoy. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ @gohawaii #MalamaHawaii #GoHawaii @visitoahu @festpachawaii #festpac2024 #pacificislands #culturalfestival #islandlife #familytravel

Ha Long Bay isn’t as well known as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City but that should change. Our visit to the archipelago was a highlight of our 12 day trip with G Adventures. I wrote about it for Global Traveler Magazine for the May issue. Now available online on their homepage. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ @globaltravelermag @gadventures #gadventures #familytime #familytravel #familytrip #adventuretravels #adventurefamilytravel #adventurefamily #familytours #vietnamtravel #vietnam #halongbayvietnam #travelwriter

Confession: I don’t love the hikes around Los Angeles. The land is usually so parched and brittle it makes me irritated against the blaring sun rather than peaceful under cool green canopies. But we found an incredible hike 20 minutes from our house in Malibu. Escondido Falls was a verdant wonder. It was an hour and a half of outdoor joy that ended with an abundant waterfall 💦 I was so excited I told the boys and they want to join us next time. Wonders never cease. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ #escondidofalls #hikesinla #losangeles #malibu #outdooradventure #familytravel #familyhike #boymom

Read all about Rush Creek Lodge, the place our writer Steffy McCourt stayed with her son when they visited Yosemite. ✍🏼 LINK IN BIO 📸✍🏼: @michiganfamilytravel ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ @yosemite_rushcreek #rushcreeklodge #yosemitenationalpark #nationalpark #outdooradventures #familytravel #familytrip

Date night in Los Angeles involved a trip to K-town to the newly opened Lasung House. Unlike the Korean barbecue and kimchee that I’m used to, this was a tribute to comfort food. Think fried fish, pork and shrimp. We enjoyed a warm udon soup and a cold buckwheat soup. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ @lasunghouse #lasunghouse #ktown #koreatown #losangeles #food #koreanfood #datenight

We got to go camping again and of course the thing we love the most is the campfire and the s’mores. We stayed at San Diego metro KOA. KOAs are our favorite campgrounds because they’re always the cleanest, most modern and include tons of extra activities for the kids (hot tub, bouncing pillow, rock wall…). We worked with the GoRVing to learn about all the new recreational vehicles that just came out for campers. It was so nice to be surrounded by nature for a couple days! ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ @gorving #rvlife #camping #campingfun #familytime #familytravel #campfireparadise #koacamping

Fun time last night celebrating 80 years of a beautiful couple last night at the Huntington Library in Pasadena. I love my family 😍

NEW ARTICLE ON WEBSITE! It’s not often that a wine region feels like it’s a secret, especially in California. Santa Maria Valley, in Central California, is tucked into the northern edge of Santa Barbara County. Somehow, this romantic oasis has managed to keep itself out of screaming headlines, allowing visitors to quietly enjoy Santa Maria wineries, the world’s best barbecue, and quiet beaches. Mother’s Day weekend started with this guy taking me on a date and bowling with his left hand to give me a chance. He still managed to get a strike with his handicap! Then today we took my mom to brunch in Santa Monica followed by my favorite local activity, biking on the beach boardwalk between Venice and Santa Monica. Though mom doesn’t ride, the boys took turns riding with her on a three wheeled bike with a bench seat. I got to share all my growing up stories with the boys as we passed points from my childhood. It was a yummy and wonderful day in the sun with the one who gave me life, the one who gave me love and the ones who showed me a kind of love I had no idea existed until I brought them into this world. So grateful. Hope all the moms had an incredible day whatever that looks like for them! ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ #santamonicabeach #venicebeach #bikingadventures #mothersday #mothersdayfun #beachgirl #bowlingfun

Saturday afternoon at @beachlifefestival was much more chill than Friday night. I assume it’ll be the same for Sunday. It was nice sitting on the sidelines and listening to music while snacking and having cocktails. The music festival is very family friendly. We saw kids running around playing corn hole and jenga and dancing to the music…. Or rather running, jumping, twisting and rolling in the grass. The adults were very well behaved. Next year we might bring the boys. Maybe. I have to say it was nice waking up to quiet in our beachfront hotel room and eating breakfast on the boardwalk. So it might become a tradition. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ #familytrip #beachlifefestival #redondobeach #hermosabeach #musicfestival #beachmusicfestival #couplegoals

Who needs Coachella when you have BeachLife Fest a few miles away and can stay at an oceanfront hotel in between days? Three stages. A variety of incredible food vendors. Craft beers and a bar. Sting was the headliner tonight ❤️ ☀️☀️☀️☀️ @beachlifefestival #beachlifevibes #beachlifefestival #musicfestivals #familymusic #familymusicfestival #familytravel #redondobeach

Best Things To Do In Kennywood for Families!

The Steel Curtain roller coaster is located in Steelers Country in Kennywood, the first ever theme park area and coaster to be named after a professional sports franchise, specifically the Pittsburgh Steelers. There’s another area called Kiddieland, which is devoted to classic attractions for little ones like a merry-go-round. Founded in 1898, the Monongahela Street Railway Company leased a popular picnic site, Kenny’s Grove, from Charles Kenny in order to open a trolley park to encourage people to use the company’s trolley cars. If you’d like to stay closer to downtown Pittsburgh, the Fairmount is arguably the nicest hotel in Pittsburgh, that’s actually where celebrities usually stay when they are in town filming movies!

Can’t Miss Things to Do in Atlanta With Kids

I spent so much of my childhood going to Braves baseball games in Atlanta that I was sure that’s what the national anthem meant (“and the home of the … Braves?”). Families also can tour Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where King was co-pastor, an antique fire station that once served the area, and the visitors center that features an exhibit especially for children. Mountains Hotels near Centennial Olympic Park, like Hyatt Place or Embassy Suites, are close to the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola R. Thomas’s gourmet dishes are vegetarian-friendly, and their kids’ menu is popular for offering childhood staples like peanut

Glen Ivy Hot Springs: A Perfect L.A. Girl's Day Trip

Glen Ivy Hot Springs is the ideal Los Angeles day trip or weekend getaway oasis with pools made of dreams, delicious California-grown food, mud baths, a grotto, mineral baths, and massages. Typically Glen Ivy Hot Springs offers some evening events that are great to enjoy with a glass of wine or two, but they have stopped the evening activities for now because of COVID. If you want to make a weekend out of your trip to Glen Ivy Hot Springs, then I would take a day to visit some of the local wineries because California wine is amazing and even better when you get to experience it where it is grown. The closest place to stay is Staybridge Suites if you would like to make a weekend out of your trip, but you can also make Glen Ivy Hot Springs a day trip!
