3rd year is so much better than years 1-2. I mean, it’s what we came here to do, right? (But really ask me after the first exam) Before I was just reading about medicine, now I’m DOING medicine, I’m SEEING patients, TALKING with patients. When I’m studying everything sticks so much better because I’ve seen it, I’ve heard the symptoms, I’ve seen the medicine. I feel like I’m where I’m meant to be. I want to do MORE. I can’t wait to see how much I’ve learned, and what specialty will have sparked my interest 1 year from now. Honestly? Things are going surprisingly well. I had a lot of dread built up about going back to clinicals. Terrified I forgot everything after being gone a year. Terrified I’d be absolutely miserable being away from baby. But so far I LOVE OBGYN, LOVE. And I haven’t even got to labor and delivery yet. Baby is managing well, pumping is honestly a hack in med school, and I’m keeping up with studying fairly well, and have had way more breaks to do so in clinic than I expected, especially being on OBGYN. CHEERS TO 3RD YEAR LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

Tomorrow is the day. I start back at med school, clinical year. The other day I made the mistake of watching “Wonder” on Netflix, while my baby was sleeping. It’s such a beautiful movie but it really pulls at your heart strings. In that moment I never wanted to be away from him, not for a min. And I felt anxious and sad about going back. A few weeks later, My friend took me on a tour of the hospita, and I was so relieved to find I was SOOO EXCITED to walk through those halls and I couldn’t help but imagine myself working with the team, with patients. Seeing amazing things happen. I’m starting on OBGYN, which has a special place in my heart. I will never forget this year. These memories will bouy me in this year and in years to come. I have loved spending nearly every minute with my baby, watching him grow in his first year of life and getting to be there for every special moment has been the greatest gift in the whole world. Being without him is going to be an adjustment. But I’m so ready to be “front door famous” ✨ I know there will be challenges, I know there will be guilt, but I also know, this is going to be an another year for the books. What a life. The first picture describes everything I feel getting to look at everything I’ve dreamed about since I can remember dreaming. These are my last few days of exclusive time with family and baby. Next month will be spent preparing for clinicals and getting baby used to me… being gone a lot more. I’m holding onto theses moments so hard and keeping them close to my heart forever. I’ll never forget this year. I know when I look back, taking a pause from med school will be an absolute blip. But this year… this year… these memories. Wow. Best decision of my life.

Quick question: does your school do normal physiology year 1, and path year 2? Or do you do both both years? My favorite resources for the pre clinical years are definitely AMBOSS and uworld. Anki really helped me but to be honest if I could go back in time I think another method would have been better as I think I remember things better when I understand them as a whole, vs a card you know, but those little details do help a bit for step. The most important thing when doing uworld questions is to understand the question, and why you got it wrong/right, not just if you got the answer right/wrong.
