Who will you take chasing the spring wildflowers in westernaustralia This wildflower season is set to be a “bumper” one with great rains earlier in the year. Now is the time to get out and see them as they are blooming in the north of the state around the Murchison, Gascoyne and Mullewa. As the season continues the flowers will begin blooming further south. Section 10 today was an easy 8.9km and a welcome relief after the gruelling distances of Section 9. I was excited for a refreshing swim and relax at Ormiston Gorge. Ormiston Gorge is also a part of the trail which has a cafe so buying an ice cream was a real treat today aswell. We finished the day at the beautiful Finke River, one of the oldest river systems in the world and abundant with birdlife. There was something about the landscape of the West MacDonnell Ranges that drew me in even before I started walking the Larapinta Trail. Then when I saw Serpentine Gorge for the first time on Section 7 I had that same feeling again of being drawn into the landscape of the #westmacdonnellranges Serpentine Gorge is a very spiritual and significant place for the local Arrernte people of the region and you can feel this all around you but especially from inside the gorge itself. Even though there would of been 10-15 people in the gorge at that moment there seemed to be a common agreed silence between us all 🫶🏻 Everyone just sat with their thoughts and reflected on this significant place and the emotions it brought out. It definitely left a lasting impression on me that for sure. Even if you don’t walk the Larapinta Trail make sure you include Serpentine Gorge in your #northernterritory itinerary 🙌🏻 Have you ever been drawn to a place that left a lasting impression on you? Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail saw us cross the Alice Valley from the Chewings Range towards the Heavitree Range. With over 300ml of rain this year we started to see an abundance of wildflowers everywhere. At East Junction you can decide to walk to Ellery Creek North or Ellery Creek South. Because we were being picked up we headed towards Ellery Creek South and after a couple of hours walking through some of the driest and most desolate parts of the trail (due to a bushfire last year) we arrived at Ellery Creek Big Hole and the most welcome cold water plunge to finish the day.. 🎨 Let’s Paint the town… The formwa public silo trail was completed in 2018 and since then visitors have gone on road trips through rural and regional #westernaustralia towns to admire them. Any reason to encourage visitors to the regions is a winner for me… I’ll be heading out on a road trip adventure soon to tick ✅ off the last silo of my #siloarttrail bucketlist.. Recently the area has had an upgrade, with redevelopment along the river foreshore and a new Mends St Arcade shopping area. Within a two minute walk of the Quest South Perth Foreshore is the South Perth ferry with a seven minute trip across the river to the Perth City, Elizabeth Quay and the Convention & Exhibition Centre. Like the ‘Bottlebrush’ which has locally made Old Young’s No.1, Giniversity aromatised wine, Australian Bottlebrush with native wattle seed and lemon myrtle. As our weekend drew to an end, I thought of the history I had with this amazing group or girls who I have called my friends for such a long time.
The train followed the ocean the whole way to Otaru where we watched the crazy japanese surfers and the waves crashing against the snowy shore. Otaru was beautiful, with snow falling on us constantly all day as we walked the streets exploring the fish stalls and souviner shops. Although sad to get back on the train after our wonderful day in Otaru, we were excited as our family friends were arriving that night. Next time you head to northern Japan for their famous j-pow and ski slopes, take a few days to explore Sapporo before you go.

Mt Romance Farm is situated half way between Denmark and Walpole in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. Denmark Dinosaur World is 10 minutes drive from Mt Romance Farm and another great place to visit with the kids . The Denmark Dinosaur World is open 9:30-4:30 daily and costs $45 for a family (2 adults plus 3 children). We opened the bottle of local wine that we had picked up at the Bow Bridge Store and the enjoyed the peace and tranquility of Mt Romance Farm.
