The bison hunt continues at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in northeast Denver! Despite this sign, I saw a person sticking their arm through the fencing to get a picture of grazing bison. EVERY YEAR, people who do not follow simple precautions end up getting injured by bison, sometimes seriously. Bison can run up to 35 mph (56 kmh), change direction quickly, and even jump fences. They can also exhibit unpredictable behavior, especially during mating season. Stay safe out there!

Why is there an overhead pipe in Waterton Canyon? Water is pulled from the South Platte River and through this pipe, eventually arriving at Denver Water's Marston Treatment Plant. Water is considered a somewhat scarce resource in the Denver metropolitan area, and the South Platte River contributes significantly to reliable water distribution. Denver Water manages both the water resources and the recreation in this part of the Canyon.
