Walking through Times Square trekking to do some consulting work at @utsavnyc, head down, phone in hand listening to “Do for Love” and replying to emails. And a random street photographer captured all of this. Stops me, shows me the photos, and asks if I want to purchase them for $10. I mean, hey, why not … I’m always up for supporting a fellow photographer 📸 keep up the good work bro.

WARREN PEACE BAR & RESTAURANT . Picking up my photography hobby once again, and who knows where I might go with it this time around. Last night, the Warren Peace bar & restaurant was kind enough to allow me to shoot some random photos in their space. It’s actually a really nice bar and I typically come here after work for a drink with co-workers. And while the cocktails here are definitely legit, I usually just order a cask-strength whiskey “neat” 🥃 and watch endless Charlie Chaplin videos. Because what is life without Lana? 🤷🏾‍♂️ . Whenever I work in a new joint or pursue some crazy venture, my friend Lana always makes it a point to stop by and pay me a visit. This particular night, she stopped by with some friends. Shortly into it, we both realized that it was my first time ever actually “preparing” a bespoke cocktail for Lana. She likes spicy passionfruit margaritas, so I made her just that but also with a supporting cast of flavors like apriciot, rosé, and even some dry vermouth. Turns out she loved it … and we decided to call this bespoke cocktail “Life Without Lana” (@lifewithoutlana). The thing with bespoke cocktails is that they’re usually made on the fly, and it’s so difficult for us to remember these recipes. But I just took the last 3 days to dig deep into my brain and remember this one. So now I’m writing it down and will give to her shortly. Cheers!

Last night I finally got a chance to sit and talk with the “Shameless” star William H. Macy (@williamhmacy). Fun Fact: did you know he played a small role in the 1980s film “The Last Dragon”? 🥋🐲 So I was at an event these past couple days for the launch of his new whiskey Woody Creek Rye 10-year (@woodycreekdistillers). Being a spirits enthusiast, I attended because my favorite spirit is whiskey … and lately it’s been specifically geared towards scotch. Upon tasting, I expected the usual characteristics of a rye whiskey — dry, spicy, and somewhat astringent on the finish. But no, I was actually blown away by this one. So I ended up sipping on two glasses of it and tried to determine the recipe (or the “mash bill”) because I couldn’t understand why it was so rich, so full bodied, and so complex in the flavor profile. Then I somehow got up enough guts to inquire about the recipe as many distillers are secretive about that info, and what they told me surprised the heck out of me: they use 20% malted barley in the recipe. Say what??? You use 20% malted barley in the mash bill??? That’s unheard of!!! Most distillers use just around 2-3% of malted barley in their recipe for the enzymes they produce, but never that much. Malted barley is typically used in such higher amounts for scotch whisky, Irish whiskey, and Japanese whisky. Wow, no wonder this rye whiskey is so complex, and kinda reminded me of a scotch. It’s also aged for 10 years which helps with its richness, and alleviates the overwhelming dryness I get from rye whiskeys. Great job Gallagher … I, I mean William. Great job! One of my students asked me to bartend for her husband’s 50th birthday party, and wow … what an amazing and fun event. Do you remember the Smoke & Spice Margarita recipe? Well, that was a HUGE hit at the party, along with the Paloma recipe that had a touch of Campari in it. Who would’ve thought so many people would fall in love with Mezcal and Campari? 😄 I also taught a few people how to make an Old-Fashioned and a Dry Martini … and gave them some tips on how to properly use bitters. That was when I realized just how much I miss teaching 🥹😩 Anyway, it was so cool to finally meet her and her family & friends after knowing them online for 2 years. And it was such a pleasure to bring some “cocktail life” to the party. Slowly getting back into my element. Two days of shooting and now it’s wrap 🎬 These past couple days were awesome as I had the amazing opportunity to do some mixologist-actor work again with Esquire (@esquire). Never thought being “on-set” would be this much fun … but I guess when nice cocktails are involved, it’s always a fun time 🍹 Be on the lookout for the episodes of In-Transit to drop around June/July 2023.
