The truth behind this👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This needs to be discussed because... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Researchers have studied the effects of chronic food restriction [Search: Minnesota Starvation Experiment], and these are the consistent findings which can happen to anyone who’s regularly under-eating, regardless of weight👆🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now I know what you’re thinking … ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💭“If I let myself eat what I want, I’ll lose control.” 💭“If I eat any more than this, I’ll gain weight.” 💭“I want food freedom, but I’m too afraid of gaining weight.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💁🏻♀️But I’m here to tell you it doesn’t need to be that way... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are ways you can eat what you need AND want. And the best part? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🙂↔️It doesn’t require that you give up all sense of structure. It doesn’t require a complete change in lifestyle, or even a total loss of identity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🙂↕️But it does require a willingness to try something different and trust the process, so I can show you how to restore trust in your body and ability to cope🫱🏻🫲🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨If this resonates with you and you want structured, therapist-led support, join The Recovery CommunEATy Waitlist!✨⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉🏼Type WAITLIST in the comments💬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ or sign up through the link in my b!o🔗☝🏻
The #1 fear people have about letting go of restrictive eating seems to be that their weight will skyrocket and they’ll never stop gaining‼️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s unpack this, shall we?👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This fear makes sense because, when you’ve been restricting your calorie intake for so long, your metabolism slows down, and you tend to experience major weight fluctuations when you eat above your usual intake. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😰So now, you’re terrified because you think, “If I gain weight so quickly after just one or two meals, won’t my weight shoot up and never stop!?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖐🏻Here’s the thing about weight gain in recovery … ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No, you won’t gain weight forever! It’s going to stop. Initially, you may notice an increase (which is not solely body fat - it’s also fluid retention, etc.) while your body is getting back all the nutrients it needs, wants, and deserves. And even if you have to overshoot this set weight, it will be okay — your body will naturally settle at its comfortable set point once it’s no longer in starvation mode❣️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🗝️The trick is learning how to COPE with triggers, emotions and catastrophic thoughts while going through this process!🧘🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨And that’s exactly what we cover in the Coping Skills Bootcamps inside the Recovery CommunEATy!✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ➡️Comment WAITLIST and I’ll DM you a link to join the waitlist!🔗

We’ve all felt it. The envy, inadequacy, regret, sometimes anger… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You feel like you’re not measuring up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But here’s what I know and remind myself of … ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. My brain is wired to self-compare. And yet, there’s no actual threat here. It’s not a competition, and I’m not failing at it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Weight loss isn’t always healthy. I have no idea how they’re doing on the inside (emotionally, mentally, physically). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Jealousy/envy is normal when someone else is achieving what society has programmed me to believe is the ultimate goal. These emotions will pass. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. My number one priority is no longer to shrink myself down. I have other meaningful things to focus on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. I know this game too well. Feel jealous, go on a diet, lose weight, get obsessive, gain it back, repeat. Don’t waste another second on this trap. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 6. Just take care of yourself. Eat, sleep, move joyfully, socialize, find purpose. You’ll be fine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 7. Life is too short to spend thinking about food and weight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 8. (If) they look happy, be happy for them. Everything is temporary. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 9. I haven’t failed. Their beauty doesn’t take away from mine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 10. Focus on your values and priorities. Objectifying yourself and others isn’t one of them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 11. I am safe. I am loved. Everything is OK as it is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 12. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 13. Refocus on what matters. Connection, friendship, LIFE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 14. I am good enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Were these helpful? Spoken from an ex-dieter & binge eater… The only thing that ever truly helped me stop over-eating and feeling out of control around food was giving myself full permission to eat it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seriously — Notice how the intensity of your emotions/urges shift when you change the dialogue from, “You shouldn’t be eating this!!” to “It’s normal eat this. I’m going to enjoy this.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you had this happen before? Share your experience in the comments. Let’s talk about it!!👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.S. Ever feel like kicking yourself for past decisions?🤦🏻♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Been there, done that. But sometimes, those setbacks turn into incredible stepping stones!🪜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used to be terrified of judgment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I missed out on so many normal things that everyone else my age was doing…because I had gained weight, or had acne, or didn’t trust I could hold a conversation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Back then, I wished I could have just looked a little deeper, had a bit more faith, given myself some grace, and focused on what was most important: learning how to be myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wish I could have trusted that I didn’t need to “hide away” until I felt confident. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, I’m so grateful for those experiences, because they taught me how precious time is, and how valuable life experiences can be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Having lost all that time for connection and experiences helped me become the person I am today who still shows up even when I’m feeling down, ugly or simply not good enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Share your own story in the comments! What past “mistake” are you secretly thankful for now?🫣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.S. if you found this content helpful, you’ll want to join me in the Recovery CommunEATy❣️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Enrollment opens again in May. Being “fully recovered” looks different for everyone, but here’s my realistic version of it: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thoughts will enter my mind about wanting my old body. But it’s become second nature to ignore them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Old food rules pop into my head here and there. But I don’t feel any urge to act on them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I always honour my hunger. And it feels incredibly freeing. Period. No buts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes I’m uninspired by food, And just eat what’s available.. to survive. Other times, I look forward to it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes meals are disappointing, And it’s not the end of the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Food feels like an addition to my life, It no longer feels like it’s my whole life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t always trust my perception of my body, Because I know my brain isn’t always kind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But no matter what my body image feels like (good or bad) It doesn’t affect how I eat, rest or show up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some old thoughts still come up, Others have never returned. Either way, they no longer have a hold on me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I value my mental well-being and I protect it all costs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s peaceful this way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Name ONE of your recovery wins in the comments — it doesn’t have to be big!!⤵️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And PS: if you want to work with me, join the waitlist for the Recovery CommunEATy by following the link in my profile!☝🏻🥰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #RealRecovery #RecoveryIsPossible #CommunEATy #DisorderedEatingRecovery #EDRecoveryCommunity
The hardest lesson to learn in recovery from food and body image issues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Is that how you feel now won’t be how you feel later. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I personally struggled with this because I felt like I’d never be okay if I gave up control. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I believed I’d never accept my body if my weight changed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And that just simply wasn’t true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s how I felt THEN, not later. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The foods you fear, and the numbers you dread, lose their power when you face them over and over. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes you gotta just close your eyes, say yes to the things you feel like saying no to, and show up anyway, even if you don’t FEEL comfortable yet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because how you feel now won’t last forever. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Was this helpful? I’d love to know what the hardest part of recovery is for you right now⤵️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #EDRecoveryCommunity #CommunEATy #DisorderedEatingRecovery #RecoveryIsPossible #NourishtoFlourish
