I DID IT !!! ๐ฅณ๐ซถ๐ป๐ฅ๐โฃโฃ โฃโฃ I ran a 5K and even better.. at an average elevation of 7,545 feet!!โฃโฃ โฃโฃ I set a goal to get into running when I had my surgery last year (after hating running my whole life), and I can now check it off my list after finishing my first race! โฃโฃ โฃโฃ I went into this with a goal to just finish, and maybe even finish before 45 minutes. With the altitude, I thought my lungs would give up and I would have to run/walk. However, I tried my best to pace myself without going too fast to get out of breath and I RAN THE WHOLE THING YโALL! and at a time of 42 minutes! I know itโs just 3.1 miles, but I never gave up and never stopped to walk!! I cried lots of tears after finishing because Iโm just so proud of myself!! ๐ฅนโฃโฃ โฃโฃ also, I canโt forget to mention how freaking awesome my friends are - both the ones that signed up for the 5k with me and for the ones at the finish line cheering me on. Iโm just so sooo grateful for each and every one of them, and for anyone else who has supported me and believed in me throughout this running journey. ๐ซถ๐ปโฃโฃ โฃโฃ p.s. how cute are the signs Kelly and Jamison made!! ๐ฅฐ
focused on making the absolute MOST out of our summer ๐๏ธ๐ค๐ฒ๐๏ธโฃ โฃ last summer (my first summer here in colorado), I spent the entirety of it rehabbing and recovering from my knee surgery. so while I was able to still do some things in the mountains and out with friends, I wasnโt able to do everything I had hoped for.. but thatโs different this year. Iโm more recovered (wouldnโt say fully recovered tho) and more capable to do and accomplish goals I have for myself!โฃ โฃ so hereโs a look into the things I have planned for this summer + goals I have :)โฃ โฃ ๐ป hike my first 14er (a mountain that exceeds in elevation of 14,000 ft above sea level)โฃ ๐ go on my first overnight backpacking tripโฃ ๐ฒ visit two more national parks to hit my 2024 goal of visiting 4 new parksโฃ โบ๏ธ go on a big ole group camping trip with my besties for my birthday weekend, along with camping throughout the rest of summerโฃ ๐ฎ๐น hike through the Dolomites!!! eek!!โฃ ๐ฃ๐ผโโ๏ธ paddle board like last summer but this time Iโll actually be cleared to stand up on the boardโฃ ๐ฅพ explore new parts of Colorado and go on harder hikes than what my knee was able to do last yearโฃ ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ maybe more races?? who knows??โฃ โฃ xoxo,โฃ kelsey and winter ๐ซถ๐ปโฃ โฃ โฃ #goldencolorado #outdoorsy #granola #coloradogram #coloradoinstagram

a few things Iโm adding into my routine (almost daily) as I run more often! 1. Tibialis raises - strengthens your tibialis anterior (a popular area where people get shin splits) 2. Double leg heel raise to single leg descend - helps manage your Achilles and how much of the load is going on that tendon, as well helping your ankles become more stable 3. stretching & foam rolling - releases pressure/tightness that could lead to injuries when I did track in middle school, I was notorious for getting shin splints and that just forever deterred me away from running. I grew up thinking that if I were to run, Iโd automatically get them. butโฆ they can go away! fun fact! haha my reminder to yโall - do extra steps in your warm up and in your recovery .. it matters. take care of yourself and do what you can to prevent injury!! #run #runningcommunity #injuryprevention #runnersofinstagram #reelsofinstagram
