The bridge wasn’t exactly what I’d expected from the photos, but I tried to get some nice photos out of it. Unfortunately, the main drag was filled with tourists and little shops, but just one road over, you got the same little houses minus the crowds. It was a super pretty monastery and all the locals have said we must go, but I’d seen so many monasteries at this point… Walked to the Ajuda Botanical Gardens of Belem from there. We walked through a couple of cool areas (Pink Street), but I was busy being a brat, and didn’t realize some of the spots we went through had much more to see than… what I saw.

Now, Philippe told us that Sintra, Portugal is actually a microclimate, but I didn’t truly understand what that meant until we got there. What it meant was that, while it’s 90 degrees every day in Lisbon, it’s cold, rainy, and so foggy Pena Palace is fairly famous and, if you admire travel photos at all, you’ve probably seen this one—a bright red and yellow tiered fairytale castle in the mountains of Portugal. The town of Sintra, Portugal—our first stop—is in the mountains and, periodically, in the little streets, they have intricate little fountains with spring water that you can just drink straight from.

Our pick-up driver from the airport, while late given arrival time confusion, was really nice and told us all about Portugal on the ride to the hotel. Our hotel is just “eh,” but that’s fine because it’s a budget trip. I thought I found a pick-up close to the hotel, but my dad saw a sign for them right out front of our hotel and I spent ten minutes arguing with him about it when the damned bus stopped right next to us. I think this day was also the day I figured out the rooftop bar that made so much noise was actually our hotel’s rooftop bar (which was supposedly one of the best in Lisbon, Portugal, by the way!).

Whether you stroll between beautiful fin de siècle houses along the main shopping street Rue Sainte-Catherine or if you enjoy a Pastis on the Place de la Bourse, you’ll get wrapped in the epitome of French savoir vivre. Finally, visit the Basilique de Notre-Dame de la Garde and enjoy a mesmerizing sunset over the glistening city before ordering a bowl of savory bouillabaisse Marseillaise. A visit to Strasbourg wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the gothic cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg, the picturesque neighborhood of La Petite France, the European neighborhood, and the History Museum of Strasbourg. In Versailles Versailles is a beautiful French city, well worth a visit for the day or on a weekend getaway.

In our opinion, blackberry cocktails are great for any season! If you’ve never made a shrub before, we highly recommend it. This shrub cocktail embodies a trio of flavors that are show stopping: blackberry, mint, and lime. Those flavors infused together and accompanied by rum and club soda make a refreshing, slightly sweet cocktail that is great for a night in or to serve guests.

The park basically broken into three areas—a manicured park area with some historic pillars, the Nature Center and animal preserve, and the Prairie Building. Fourth-grade classes are actually held in the schoolhouse, where students are taught all about prairie life and Nebraska state history. Carvings on the exterior of the building represent the evolution of democracy and murals on the interior of the building depict Nebraska’s Native American and pioneer heritage.
