Then leave the city behind for a day trip to Waiheke: Auckland’s wine island where you can sample the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that New Zealand is known for. Visit Belgrade from March to May to uncover the city’s history. I fell in love with the food market my first day, and then quickly uncovered the city’s secrets and lost the rest of my heart. the city’s battles with the Venetians on a walking tour along the towering city walls.

    A walk and a lark

Once you reach the end of the logging road, turn right into the trees to start the main muddly, rooty trail towards Marriot Basin and Rohr Lake. If you’d like to see the full map, it is in the trip planning section of the Avalanche Canada website. We couldn’t see the route, but we were able to follow the map on my phone to find the base of the boulder field below Rohr Lake. Next time, I’d like to come in the summertime and attempt to go the whole way up Mount Rohr.

  • 17 Wonderful Things to Do in Ottawa in Winter

, an outdoor skating rink Skiing is one of the best things to do in Ottawa in winter – well, anywhere in winter really. Most ski hills also have snowshoe trails, cross country skiing options, and places to go tubing (because an inner tube on snow is genuinely one of my favourite things to do in winter, even though I always sort of feel like I’m going to die). The most unique things to do in Ottawa in winter come from Winterlude, Ottawa’s annual winter festival. Technically Nordik Spa is an indoor/outdoor experience, but since the best thing to do at Nordik Spa is outdoors, it fits better into the best outdoor things to do in Ottawa in winter than the indoor.

    A walk and a lark

The hike to Crooked Falls is short and sweet, so it’s great when you fancy a quick-ish adventure on soggy days. From Squamish, head North on the Highway 99, then turn off onto Squamish Valley Road. After a while, the road turns into a gravel forest service road (but it isn’t too dodgy There was soo much rain and splash back from the waterfall, that we didn’t stop for snacks to admire the view like we normally do.

    Parkhurst Ghost Town

It is an easy loop that will take you through a mushroom filled forest to an abandoned logging village near Green Lake. On the return journey you’ll walk along the Sea to Sky trail, like the walk I described at Shadow Lake. We did this walk in October, when there were loooads of the super creepy devils tooth mushrooms looking like they were bleeding along the edge of the trail. If a ghost town, creepy mushrooms, lake views and a huge bear are not enough to get you out on a hike, we also found a waterfall!

  • What is the Best Time of Year to Visit New Zealand?

Now that I’ve waxed poetic about my favourite country in the world, let’s talk about practicalities: when is the best time of year to visit New Zealand. So keep in mind that when we’re discussing the best time of year to visit New Zealand, we’ll be talking about the Southern Hemisphere seasons. So, if you’re looking for less people and are willing to deal with a chance of rain, Autumn is the best time of year for you to visit New Zealand. So, if you’re looking for a bargain and you enjoy snowboarding, winter is the best time of year to visit New Zealand.

The BCMC trail is an alternative to the famous Grouse Grind that will allow you to hike up Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, Canada. The Grouse Grind is closed in winter as it is too hazardous to hike on that route when its covered in snow and ice. If you spend several hours up on Grouse Mountain, you will probably want to ride the Sky Ride down the mountain. In the summertime, the speediest people head up the Grouse Grind, so it is nice to have a more relaxed trail for getting up this famous mountain.

    A walk and a lark

The hike finishes half way up Rainbow Mountain, right under Rainbow Glacier where parts of the Glacier melt into a bright blue, iceberg-filled lake. You can park at the end of Mountain View Drive, in the Alpine Meadows area of Whistler. There is a nice open area with fantastic views of Rainbow Mountain and the Rainbow Mountain glacier. We could see the Weart Glacier, Wedge mountain (the pointy one in the middle) as well as Phalanx Mountain to the right (and Blackcomb Peak to the far right.)
