    Marina Barrage is a large green area with a sea barrage that makes the Bay Area calm and pleasant for leisure activities, and itself offers the best opportunity for kite flying in Singapore. The dam itself is made up of 9 gigantic, 88 foot (meters), steel-crest gates that spread across the Marina Channel and has its own solar park that generates about 50% of electricity necessary for the operation during day time. The easiest way is to take bus 400 from Tanjong Pagar Station or from Marina Bay MRT Station. The Water Playground has one of the best views of the Singapore city skyline and the green roof offers a pleasant shade during the hot sunny days.

The rocks were used in the construction of the Causeway, Istana, Raffles Lighthouse and Singapore’s oldest lighthouse, the Horsburgh. We visited the Balai Quarry and Pekan Quarry.

    The ferries are operated by Singapore Island Cruise depart from the Marina South Pier every weekday at 10 am and 2 pm bound for Kusu Island. The Kusu island ferry price is $18 for a roundtrip and $12 for children aged 1 to 12 years old. We visited Kusu during October, and due to the high number of pilgrims, the ferries departed every hour, and we spent about 3 hours on the island. The legend of Kusu Island and the Tortoise Kusu means ‘Tortoise’ or ‘Turtle’ in Chinese, but the island is also known as Peak Island or Pulau Tembakul in Malay.

  • Oulanka National Park

    The hike starts either from Juuma village, or you can shorten it a bit (if you arrive by car) and drive to Basecamp Oulanka parking lot. The hike is suitable both for summer and winter, although at the beginning of the winter you may need snowshoes to make your job easier in the deepening snow. A part of the circuit is overlapping with the Finland-wide famous 82 km long Karhunkierros Trail which is the actual Bear’s Trail. You will pass several bridges, walk on the top of the cliffs, observe the river in the canyon, see a watermill, a waterfall and several viewpoints along your hike.
