I’ve finally had time to sort through my photos and choose some to create my very own photo book full of travel memories. While this isn’t much good if you can’t travel anywhere, when you are travelling, collecting souvenirs from each place you visit such as postcards or fridge magnets will help you to remember your fabulous holiday memories. Buying paintings by local artists of the places you visit is another lovely way to support local artisans and bring your travel memories home. If you are staying in Tulum, obviously Tulum ruins are much closer than Chichen Itza Tulum, on the other hand, does not have world wonder status, but the location of the Tulum ruins on a cliff overlooking the sea is absolutely stunning. You can arrange Chichen Itza tours from basically anywhere in the Yucatan, the most popular being tours from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Merida and Valladolid. If you come to Tulum by bus or collectivo from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, they usually drop you off on the main road going through Tulum, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the entrance to the ruins.

Camping – either in a campervan, motorhome, caravan or a tent offers a unique opportunity to explore the countryside, while being able to stay socially distanced and as self-contained as possible! The Caravan and Motorhome Club has gifted me a membership to their club so I’m looking forward to staying in some of their sites – from what I’ve seen they are in some fabulous locations and will be perfect for my coastal adventure! Some of the places I’m hoping to stay include Trewethett Farm Caravan Club Site which is perched on a clifftop near Tintagel, and Merrose Farm Caravan Club Site in the Roseland Heritage Coast area which looks absolutely gorgeous. I would love to head up to Scotland, but depending on how much time I have I might go cross-country and head to the North West coast of England, through the Lake District and south through Lancashire to where I grew up, near Southport.

The Blue Ridge Parkway– which stretches from Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia– has to be one of the best road trips in the United States of America. A road trip to New York State’s Thousand Islands is full of wonderful on and around-water adventures, from physical or cultural activities to food and wine. Explore beautiful Taughannock Falls State Park and enjoy the fruits of the area on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, have homemade ice cream, and stop at the cheese farm to end your road trip. Once you cross into Maine, be sure to stop at one or two of Maine’s quintessential beach towns like York or Ogunquit, and as you enter Portland, don’t miss the Portland Head Light lighthouse at Cape Elizabeth and indulge in some authentic Maine lobster at the Lobster Shack at Two Lights nearby.
