And now I was standing at a crossroads and leaving it up to the world wide web of wonders to see if I could make a trip to the US feasible… I put out a request to my network to see if I could find a job (and a couch to crash on) for a few months and got replies from all over the country! BEST Kids, Inc. BEST Kids needed support around their annual gala taking place in October and strategy to support their year-round fundraising efforts to continue to provide caring and consistent mentors for youth in DC’s foster care system. It’s home to a plethora of fantastic bars and restaurants, one-of-a-kind stores, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad station, the Art Museum, and the Civic Theater. The Akron Art Museum (70 East Market Street) showcases a variety of art dating back to 1850 through present day. Recently coming home from an epic road trip to 13 national parks, Our Land Special Exhibit (through February 12, 2017) also caught our attention. Hop on a bike or train, walk on your own two feet, navigate the river on a canoe or kayak or drive the scenic roads through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

An extension of our summer road trip continues with a visit to our 14th national park of the year! We started this trip in Ohio to downtown Cleveland, Akron next, and then will finish up in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. While in Akron, we spent the day in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

We took the travelers route across historic Lincoln Highway, stopped at the world’s largest rail yard, took in views at the state capitol building and found a sunken garden. The self-guided tour begins with a short video of the history of the yard, then up you go into the elevator for the views and more history of the transportation system and what it was used for in the past. The women of North Platte took it upon themselves to greet and serve our soldiers that were either going off or coming home from war. Tomorrow we go home, ending our epic 80 day summer road trip.
