Last month I had the pleasure of attending BlogHer16, a women’s blogger conference in Los Angeles, where I learned the importance of recognizing success, continuously learning, and being self-aware. Her talk was an energizing battle cry to get day one started as I headed into back-to-back sessions on subjects like Owning Your Expertise, Growing Your Influence with a Social Media Strategy and Plan, and Virtual/Augmented Reality. Whether it was the emergence of a new social media platform or the new tech trends like VR and AR that I didn’t have a full grasp of right away, my feelings of inadequacy would resurface and I would convince myself that I didn’t deserve the career I’ve worked so hard to build. While the social media landscape, technology, and even the way we conduct PR may change, I’m responsible for recognizing where I’m an expert, while making sure I’m also knowledgeable in areas where I’m not the expert.
